Toxoplasmosis in the Pregnant Women and its Transmission to the Embryo in Rafsanjan City, Iran

Abstract:
SUMMARY In this investigation, 203 blood Samples collected from admitted pregnant Women of "Nik-Nafs" Maternity hospital of Rafsanjan, were examined to detect Toxoplasma antibodies by an indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). A total of 98 cases (48.3 Percent)were positive with titers of 1:16 or higher. There was no significant difference in prevalence rate between pregnant women of city and villages. Umbilical cord blood samples of newborns related to seropositive mothers (98 cases) were tested with IgM- IFA and all the results were negative.
