چکیده مقاله:

Toxicity of trace metals in the environment, bioaccumulation in aquatic environments and in food chains are of great importance. This study concentrates on the distribution patterns of some heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Zn and Fe) in surface sediments of Shoor River estuary to obtain an overall classification for the origins of the metals in the studied area. In order to determine the degree of Contamination and environmental quality of region sediments, indexes such as the Enrichment Factor (EF) and Modified degree of Contamination (mCd) for each of the sampling stations applied. The results of EF represented the low accumulation of Ni in the surface sediments of region, and Zn in different stations have different degrees of enrichment, which can be attributed to the influence of anthropogenic factors. While, Pb was no enrichment and did not pose anthropogenic contamination. According to mCd, study area in terms of environmental quality, in all sampling stations was in order to uncontaminated until very slight contamination areas. This study revealed that on the basis of computed indexes,Shoor River estuary was classified as very low contamination estuary. Nevertheless, due to rapid urbanization and industrial development of Bandar Abbas, monitoring of heavy metals contamination in the study area due to its ecological importance is necessary.

Heavy metal contamination in surface sediments of four important rivers leading to the Caspian Sea

Heavy metals tend to be adsorbed and accumulated in sediments as opposed to water or suspended solids. Sediments and biota bodis can act as a final sink for heavy metals in the aquatic environments. They accumulate through the food chain posing potential biological and ecological risks. Therefore, research on the heavy metal concentrations in aquatic ecosystems can help to protect human health ...

Bioaccumulation of Heavy Metals (Pb, Fe & Zn) in the Tissues of Skeletal Coral family, Faviidae and Surrounding Sediments in the South of Qeshm Island-The Persian Gulf

The following research was conducted to study the concentration of Pb, Fe & Zn in skeletons and sediments of dominant hard coral family (Faviidae) in Zeyton Park, Naz Islands and Shib-deraz stations, South of Qeshm Island. The analysis of these heavy metals in digested samples of skeletons and sediments was done using graphite furnace Atomic Absorbtion Spectophotometry for measuring the levels ...

Heavy Metals Contamination in the Surface Sediments of Talar River, north of Iran

Background and Purpose: The contamination by potentially toxic element (PTE) is a common environmental issue in worldwide rivers. The present study examined PTEs concentration in sediments of Talar River which is one of the main rivers in the Sothern Caspian Basin. Materials and Methods: The sediment samples (n= 44) were collected from top 0–5 cm of surface sediment in the main channel and flo...

Monitoring of Heavy Metals Contamination (Pb, Zn, Cr and Cu) in Sediments of Balkhlou River of Ardebil by Implication of Sediment pollution Indices

Background: Water contamination of heavy metals is one of the major threats to human health and food chain. In this study, concentration of heavy metals of lead, chromium, copper and zinc in sediment was measured in order to assess their ecological effects and their risk. Methods: To determine the concentration of metals, 12 stations were selected along the river and 3 samples from the sedi...
