چکیده مقاله:

Objectives Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is among the most common cancers worldwide. This study aimed to assess the expression of CK8 and CK17 by OSCC cell lines in Iranian patients. Methods This observational study was conducted on three OSCC cell lines with a minimum of 45 passages. Cells isolated from three patients with OSCC were cultured and passaged. Expression of CK8 and CK17 epithelial markers was assessed using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Data were presented qualitatively. Results The results confrmed the expression of CK8 and CK17 mRNA in three groups. Expression of these markers was different in the three specimens based on their degree of malignancy. Conclusion Since CK8 and CK17 were expressed in different superfcial and basal layers in the three specimens, epithelial origin of these cells was confrmed. This study can pave the way for further cancer research and designing new treatments.

Angiogenesis and Tumor-Associated Macrophages in Different Grades of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Verrucous Carcinoma and Epithelial Dysplasia via Immunohistochemical Assessment of Expression of CD34 and CD68 Markers

Background:Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity, which is highly invasive. Verrucous carcinoma (VC) is the low-grade form of SCC. Epithelial dysplasia (ED) also has a malignant potential. This immunohistochemical (IHC) study aimed to assess angiogenesis and the presence of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in SCC, VC and ED to determi...

Comparison of Expression of p53 and bcl-2 Markers in Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Background and Aim: It has been suggested that oral lichen planus (OLP) can be a potential premalignant lesion. Reports are also available on the role of bcl-2 and p53 proteins in malignant transformation of OLP into oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Due to controversies in these reports, the present study aimed to compare the expression of p53 and bcl-2 markers in OLP and OSCC. Materials a...

Comparing Immunohistochemical Expression of Podoplanin between Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Normal Oral Mucosa

Background and purpose: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the sixth most common cancer in the world. Podoplanin is a mucin-like integral membrane glycoprotein that is expressed in the lymphatic endothelial cells but not in the blood vascular endothelial cells. The aim of the present study was to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of podoplanin and evaluating lymphangiogenesis i...

Prognostic and Predictive Clinical, Pathological and Molecular Markers for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: review of articles

Approximately 90% of all head and neck malignancies and 94% of oral malignancies are squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Tobacco smoking is considered as the most important causative agent for SCC. Despite aggressive and multidisciplinary treatment approaches, there has been no significant improvement in 5-year survival over the past 20 years. Several prognostic and predictive clinical, pathological...

Immunohistochemical Evaluation of Fascin in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Background and purpose: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the eighth most common cancer in men and the fifteenth in women. Localized recurrence and metastasis to regional lymph nodes are major problems in these patients. Fascin is a 55- kDa protein from the family of actin-binding proteins that is expressed in cells with membranous bronchial tubes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expre...
