Immune Response to the Pathogenesis of COVID-19 Infection: Possible Mechanism of Nutrition (Vitamins, Supplement) and Exercise

COVID-19 infection, a present ravaging disease attributed to a SARS-CoV like illness has brought the world to it knee causing a pandemic, with human-human transmission indexed to be a major source of transmission of this ailment. Alarmingly, this infection based on clinical manifestations has been diagnosed as a virus induced pneumonia with over 5 million cases reckoned at a mortality rate of about 7% as at the recently published global report. However, most deaths have been associated with patients with underlying immune dysfunction or compromised immune system. As no specific therapeutics and vaccine have been reported, the fortification of the immune system through nutritional intake and exercise is thus essential since previous studies have affirmed the immune-activating capabilities of Vitamin A and D, along with supplementary induction, yielding positive results in combating previous viral challenges. Uniformly, gradual upsurge of T-lymphocytes and immune cells activities has been implemented by moderate sustenance of exercise activities. This review examines the bit-parts of nutrition and exercise in immune system enhancement, and thus propose the possible mechanism of nutrition and exercise in combating COVID-19 infection.
