Prevalence of hepatitis A in children in Yasuj city

Abstract Background: hepatitis A infection is prevalance  in the worldwide but has different epidemiologic  and  transmittance pattern in different  regions. The aim of this  study was to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis A and it’s associated risk factors in children,Yasuj,Iran. Methods & Materials: This descriptive cross-sectional study  was done on 379 children whose aged from 1 years  to 15 years old that selected with Quota sampling,the subjects were tested serologically for IgG & IgM antibody to HAV by using ELISA method. Some hepatitis A -related factors such as age,sex,parent’s education,parent’s job,family income,region,using kindergarten evaluated with Chi-square analysis. Results: hepatitis A infection was found in 11.6 %(44 persons) that had significant correlation with age(X²= 78.38) and family income (X=52.83) in p=0.01 level. Conclusion: according to obtained results,it’s necessary to pay attention to age group with high risk of infection and family group with low income level for prevention and decreasing of affection rate.
