In a variety of diseases, inflammation causes microvascular leakage and activates thrombin. Evidence suggests that thrombin increases cytosolic calcium and stimulates human airway smooth muscle (ASM) cell proliferation. The receptor subtypes, however, that mediate the effects of thrombin on ASM cell growth or calcium mobilization remain unknown. In this study, we postulate that thrombin, which ...
In this paper, we present a method for computing growth rates and frequency shifts of a beam containing multiple non-rigid bunches. With this approach, we calculate non-rigid multibunch effects which can impact phenomena which are traditionally treated as single-bunch effects, such as the transverse mode-coupling instability. This approach is important for high current storage rings such as PEP...
Division planes in Escherichia coli, usually restricted to one dimension of the rod-shaped cell, were induced at all possible planes by transforming the cells to spheroids with mecillinam (inactivating PbpA). Such cells displayed many nucleoids and arcs of FtsZ, genetically tagged to green fluorescent protein, that developed to rings at constriction sites all around their surface. These observa...
In the title mol-ecule, C(18)H(18)F(2)N(2)O(2)S, the two benzene rings, which are oriented in opposite directions with respect to the rigid 2,5-diaza-bicyclo-[2.2.1]heptane core, form a dihedral angle of 17.2 (1)°. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O, C-H⋯F and C-H⋯N contacts consolidate the crystal packing.
We give an informal introduction to formal and rigid geometry over complete discrete valuation rings, and we discuss some applications in algebraic and arithmetic geometry and singularity theory, with special emphasis on recent applications to the Milnor fibration and the motivic zeta function by J. Sebag and the author.
Four-month-old infants were allowed to manipulate, without vision, two rings attached to a bar that permitted each ring to undergo rotary motion against a fixed surface. In different conditions, the relative motions of the rings were rigid, independent, or opposite, and they circled either the same fixed point outside the zone of manipulation or spatially separated points. Infants' perception o...
The preparation of a number of cyclic imide 5-HT(1A) receptor ligand derivatives has been described. Their structures were conformationally constrained by introducing rigid linkers containing unsaturated bonds or aromatic benzene rings. These compounds are expected to possess anxiolytic and antidepressant activity.
Let A be a commutative ring, B a commutative A-algebra and M a complex of B-modules. We begin by constructing the square SqB/A M , which is also a complex of B-modules. The squaring operation is a quadratic functor, and its construction requires differential graded (DG) algebras. If there exists an isomorphism ρ : M ≃ −→ SqB/A M then the pair (M,ρ) is called a rigid complex over B relative to A...
The title compound, commonly known as (+)-(6aS,11aS)-medicarpin, C(16)H(14)O(4), was isolated from Dalbergia oliveri and displays a rigid mol-ecule consisting of four fused rings. The benzofuran system is inclined at an angle of 76.49 (2)° with respect to the chroman unit. The compound exists as a polymeric chain arising from inter-molecular O-H⋯O bonding.
(4aS,5R,7R,8S,8aR)-8-(1,3-Dioxolan-2-yl)-7,8-dimethyl-5-(1-methylethenyl)perhydronaphthalen-2-one
In the chiral title compound, C(18)H(28)O(3), the two six-membered rings of the perhydronaphthalenone adopt a rigid chair-chair conformation and the five-membered dioxolanyl ring adopts an envelope conformation. The crystal structure is stabilized only by weak inter-actions.
