We consider the situation in two sample testing when one variance is assumed to be known while the other variance is considered unknown. This situation arises, for example, when one is interested in comparing a standard treatment with a new treatment. Although this situation occurs relatively infrequently, our example discusses the important tool of moment matching and makes the classic two sam...

Sweating threshold temperature and sweating sensitivity responses are measured to evaluate thermoregulatory control. However, analytic approaches vary, and no standardized methodology has been validated. This study validated a simple and standardized method, segmented linear regression (SReg), for determination of sweating threshold temperature and sensitivity. Archived data were extracted for ...

BACKGROUND Previously we evaluated the effectiveness of videotaped feedback as a teaching tool for surgical residents using 3 different core skills in the field of orthopedics. Our results revealed no significant differences in technical skill among surgical residents who were exposed to videotaped feedback and those who were not. Several limitations in the study were identified, including the ...

This article discusses general modeling of multisubject and/or multisession FMRI data. In particular, we show that a two-level mixed-effects model (where parameters of interest at the group level are estimated from parameter and variance estimates from the single-session level) can be made equivalent to a single complete mixed-effects model (where parameters of interest at the group level are e...

We discuss Chernoo-type large deviation results for the total variation , the I-divergence errors, and the 2-divergence errors on partitions. In contrast to the total variation and the I-divergence, the 2-divergence has an unconventional large deviation rate. Applications to Bahadur eeciencies of goodness-of-t tests based on these divergence measures for multivariate observations are given.

This study was designed 1) to determine the intertester reliability of the universal goniometer and the fluid-based goniometer and 2) to establish the concurrent validity of the fluid-based goniometer. Two testers measured active knee flexion of 20 healthy subjects (15 women, 5 men) using both instruments. The subjects had a mean age of 24.8 years (s = 5.5) and reported no previous history of p...
