Background. Chinese herbal products (CHPs) given as a therapy for symptom relief have gained widespread popularity among women with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to analyze the utilization of CHP among women with breast cancer in Taiwan. Methods. The usage, frequency of services, and CHP prescribed for breast cancer among women with breast cancer were evaluated, recruited from a rand...

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) production using renewable energy sources is gaining importance because of its flexibility and high-energy efficiency. Biomass materials, such as corn stover and forestry residues, are potential sources for renewable energy for CHP production. In Mississippi, approximately 4.0 MT dry tons of woody biomass is available annually for energy production. In this study, ...

Fundamental frequency (F0) discrimination between two sequentially presented complex (target) tones can be impaired in the presence of an additional complex tone (the interferer) even when filtered into a remote spectral region [Gockel, H., et al. (2004). J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 116, 1092-1104]. This "pitch discrimination interference" (PDI) is greatest when the interferer and target have similar F...

The EU emissions trading scheme (ETS) taking effect in 2005 covers CO2 emissions from specific large-scale industrial activities and combustion installations. A large number of existing and potential future combined heat and power (CHP) installations are subject to ETS and targeted for emissions reduction. CHP production is an important technology for efficient and clean provision of energy bec...

The p21-activated protein kinases (PAKs) are activated through direct interaction with the GTPases Rac and Cdc42Hs, which are implicated in the control of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAP kinase) c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton [1-3]. The exact role of the PAK proteins in these signaling pathways is not entirely clear. To elucidate the bio...

The energy conservation achieved by utilizing waste heat in the energy and industrial sectors has became more and more important after the energy crisis in the 1970s because it plays a vital role in the potential energy-efficiency improvement. In this regard, cogeneration (combined heat and power, CHP) systems are thus becoming attractive due to the energy, economic, and environmental policies ...

A self-assembled nanogel is constructed from light-sensitive cholesteryl pullulan (Ls-CHP) by using photo-labile ortho-nitrobenzyl (o-NB) units. The nanogel-based film is obtained by evaporation of an Ls-CHP nanogel solution. Exposure of the resulting nanogel-based film to light with a mask resulted in a patterned film that can encapsulate FITC-insulin.

BACKGROUND Cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis (CHP) is a rare form of nodular panniculitis that may progress to panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma. We report a case of CHP that first manifested as bilateral ptosis, which is the first reported case of this presentation. CASE PRESENTATION A 25-year-old woman without medical history was referred to the neurology department of our hospital for ev...

BACKGROUND/AIMS The aim of this study was to compare the progression of bone mass loss in chronic hemodialysis patients (CHPs) with that in general population patients (GPPs) over an 18-month period. METHODS The control group consisted of 60 patients (aged 57.5 ± 10.9 years) with a glomerular filtration rate > 60 mL/min/1.73 m(2). The study group included 80 patients undergoing hemodialysis (...
