Penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) of 15 selected penicillin- and amoxicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates (MICs of 2 to 8 and 8 to 16 microg/ml, respectively) were studied. In addition to typical changes in PBPs 1A and 2X, these strains had 10 unique changes in PBP 2B, including a (618)A-G substitution, which may be the key alteration associated with amoxicillin resistance.

This article reports on optical properties of Mn 2+ (0.5 mol%): 49.5 B2O3 10PbO 30CdO -10AlF3 glasses. Optical absorption spectrum of the manganese ions doped glass exhibits broad absorption band at 473 nm. Photoluminescence spectrum of Mn 2+ (0.5 mol %): 49.5B2O330CdO – 10PbO 10AlF3 glass has revealed a red emission at 618 nm with an excitation wavelength 467 nm.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) syndromes are inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion with high penetrance. There are three subtypes, namely, MEN2A (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A), MEN2B (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2B), and familial medullary thyroid carcinoma. The variations in the RET gene play an important role in the MEN2 syndromes. In this work, we have develope...

Many astrophysical flows occur in inhomogeneous media. We briefly discuss some general properties of the adiabatic and radiative inhomogeneous systems and discuss the relevance of those properties to the planetary nebulae systems. We then focus on radiative hypersonic bullets and the applicability of this model to planetary and protoplanetary systems such as CRL 618, NGC 6543, Hen 3-1475.

Acellular dermal equivalents provide a temporary three-dimensional scaffold for cell migration and proliferation, therefore promoting the wound healing process. Currently, two of most widely used substitutes are represented by native non-cross-linked collagen matrix supplemented an elastin hydrolysate (MatriDerm®) bilayer consisting porous replacement layer composed glycosaminoglycan outer poly...
