Neostigmine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that is increasingly used as a medical treatment in cases of pseudo-obstruction. It has a well-recognized side-effect profile that includes bradycardia and bronchospasm. We present a case of colonic perforation after administration of neostigmine in the treatment of pseudo-obstruction.
The lichen-forming fungus Cladonia macilenta strain KoLRI003786 is capable of producing an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, biruloquinone, which effectively prevents neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease. Laying the foundation to unravel the biruloquinone biosynthetic pathway, we present the 37.11-Mb draft genome sequence of strain KoLRI003786.
Introduction: Donepezil (DON), an Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor (AChEI), is widely used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). The current study aimed at evaluating the effect of donepezil hydrochloride on pyramidal neuron response in CA1 region of a rat model of AD. Methods: In the current experimental study, adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: Nucleus Basal...
A procedure is suggested for measuring acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activities in human whole blood using acetylthiocholine as a substrate and ethopropazine as a selective inhibitor of butyrylcholinesterase. The procedure is suitable for screening cholinesterase activities in routine and/or field tests.
The recent study of the traditional medicines in China has given us confidence that what was recorded in Chinese ancient medical literature through empirical observations is indeed still coincident with modem chemistry, pharmacology and medicine. An antimalarial drug, artemether, and an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, huperzine A, are exemplified.
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative age-related brain which diminishes learning and memory. Two main cholinesterases (ChEs), first acetylcholinesterase (AChE) second one butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) are the major targets to treat this disease. In current study, six novel pyrazolo-benzothiazole analogues were systematically planned, synthesized, biological tested for their ChEs activ...
Nine compounds (MO1–MO9) containing the morpholine moiety were assessed for their inhibitory activities against monoamine oxidases (MAOs) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE). Most of potently inhibited MAO-B; MO1 most with an IC50 value 0.030 µM, followed by MO7 (0.25 µM). MO5 AChE (IC50 = 6.1 µM), MO9 12.01 µM) MAO-A 7.1 was a reversible mixed-type inhibitor MAO-B (Ki 0.018 µM); reversibly competi...
Alzheimer's disease (AD) and diabetes mellitus (DM) are related to abnormal changes in enzyme activity. While acetylcholinesterase (AChE) butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) the primary targets treatment of (AD), α-glucosidase (α-Gly) α-amylase (α-Amy) enzymes known for (DM). Here, benzenesulfonamide-based thiourea thiazolidinone derivatives such as AChE, BChE, α-Gly, α-Amy inhibitors were reported. T...
Lindera glauca is a shrub or small tree mostly distributed in China, Japan and Korea. However, reports on the biological activities of fruit essential oil (LGFEO) are limited. The study its chemical composition, antioxidant cholinesterase inhibitory were performed, along with molecular docking six selected compounds. LGFEO was extracted by hydro distillation analyzed GC-MS GC-FID. Antioxidant e...
