Intracardiac frusemide given to seven patients recovering from high-altitude pulmonary oedema caused a significant reduction in the pulmonary blood volume before the onset of diuresis. This supports the suggestion that the mobilization of fluid from the pulmonary circuit is responsible for the relief of symptoms in some patients with pulmonary oedema even when a diuresis does not occur.

To investigate the pathogenesis of post-obstructive diuresis, a state of functional "anuria" during ureteral obstruction was created in awake rats by (a) bilateral obstruction (BO); (b) unilateral obstruction and contralateral nephrectomy (UO-Nx); or (c) unilateral obstruction and continuous i.v. reinfusion of urine from the intact contralateral kidney (UO-reinf). These groups were compared wit...

A diuretic is any substance that promotes the production of urine. This includes forced diuresis. There are several categories of diuretics. All diuretics increase the excretion of water from bodies, although each class does so in a distinct way. Alternatively, an ant diuretic such as vasopressin, or ant diuretic hormone, is an agent or drug which reduces the excretion of water in urine. In med...

In patients with chronic renal failure on hemodialysis, left ventricular hypertrophy is related to the increase in total peripheral vascular resistance and volume overload. The presence of residual diuresis enables greater control of the volemia of these. We evaluated the morpho-functional changes of the left ventricle in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodyalisis treatment with and w...

The present study examined the effect of an angiotensin II AT1 or AT2 receptor antagonist on the impairment of the pressure diuresis and natriuresis response produced by nitric oxide (NO) synthesis blockade. N ω-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME, 37 nmol ⋅ kg-1 ⋅ min-1) lowered renal blood flow and reduced the slopes of the pressure diuresis and natriuresis responses by 44 and 40%, respecti...

The effects of water diuresis, hypotonic NaCl, and hypotonic mannitol diuresis on renal sodium and water excretion were examined in normal dogs and in dogs with chronic constriction of the thoracic inferior vena cava and ascites (caval dogs). During all three diuretic states, the capacity to excrete solute-free water relative to the supply of sodium to the water clearing segment of the nephron ...

• In experiments undertaken to produce acute hypertension by left stellate ganglion stimulation, it was observed that during such stimulation a diuresis occurred which was not related to changes in mean arterial pressure. In fact, diuresis was sometimes observed in animals in which mean arterial pressure remained the same or declined. During the diuresis, a decline in left atrial pressure was a...
