rious complications after esophagectomy, and it occurs in 5%–29% of patients [1]. Although there are no standardizedmethods for treating intrathoracic leakage, the treatment options include surgery, external drainage, and endoscopic treatment. A 68-year-oldmanwas hospitalizedwith a mild cough associatedwith oral intake. He had been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus 18 mont...
BACKGROUND Data are needed on the safety and efficacy of device closure of large atrial septal defects. METHODS AND RESULTS Between 1998 and 2013, 336 patients (161 children <15 years) with large, isolated, secundum atrial septal defects (balloon-stretched diameter ≥34 mm in adults or echocardiographic diameter >15 mm/m(2) in children) were managed using the Amplatzer device, at the Marie Lan...
Left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion has been introduced into clinical practice as a valuable alternative to oral anticoagulation for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. In this case presentation we describe the first LAA occlusion in Greece using the Amplatzer Amulet device. We also briefly discuss issues related to procedural safety and multimodality imaging ...
A pulmonary artery aneurysm is a common manifestation and the leading cause of mortality in Behçet's disease. We describe a case of spontaneous rupture of a pulmonary artery aneurysm that, due to the inadequacy of medical therapy and the disadvantages of surgery, became the ideal candidate for endovascular management and was successfully performed by using the Amplatzer Vascular Plug 4.
A critically ill patient had a major mitral paravalvular leak, failed device closure of the leak, and severe hemolytic anemia after a third mitral valve replacement. Echocardiography showed the Amplatzer occluder device completely displaced and swirled in the left atrial cavity. His condition was greatly improved after a fourth mitral valve replacement.
Pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysms (PAP) may result in life threatening haemoptysis but are fortunately uncommon. Most are caused by trauma, iatrogenic injury or infection. We describe a case of large PAP secondary to fungal infection in an immunocompromised patient, which was successfully treated percutaneously using Amplatzer embolisation plugs. The technical considerations and advantages of th...
Transient ST elevation in inferior leads has been described as a rare complication during percutaneous atrial septal defect closure. We present a series of adult patients who underwent percutaneous atrial septal defect closure with the Amplatzer device and in whom transient ST changes were observed frequently.
Lutembacher syndrome is the combination of congenital atrial septal defect and acquired mitral stenosis. The condition is usually treated surgically. We describe a patient treated percutaneously with a combined Inoue balloon valvuloplasty and septal defect closure using the Amplatzer septal occlusion device.
Splenic Artery Aneurysms are commonly detected incidentally and can present acutely as a source of intra-abdominal catastrophe. Management options include both surgical and endovascular repair. The role of endovascular repair in an haemodynamically stable acute rupture is undefined and the use of Amplatzer(®) Vascular Plug has not to our knowledge been reported.
Amplatzer duct occluder II additional sizes is a new generation of device for arterial duct closure, appropriate for infants and older children. We report the successful transcatheter closure of the arterial duct in an infant and two older children with the above-mentioned device.
