Malaria is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in many developing tropical countries, particularly in children and pregnant women. With growing concerns about the development of resistance to current antimalarial drugs, herbal alternatives may provide significant and sustainable treatment options in affected regions. This review aimed at providing an updated overview of available data on...

India contributes significantly to the global Plasmodium vivax burden. Treatment of malaria is more challenging than before owing rise antimalarial drug resistance. The commonly used drugs for treatment are chloroquine, antifolates like sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine, and artemisinin-based derivatives. Antimalarial resistance studied by in vitro vivo methods. Study on mutations targets parasite a wi...

Susceptibility to quinoline antimalarial intoxication may reflect individual genetic and drug-induced variation in neuropharmacokinetics. In this report, we describe a case of chloroquine intoxication that appeared to be prolonged by subsequent use of multiple psychotropic medications. This case highlights important new considerations for the management of quinoline antimalarial intoxication.

Incessant malaria endemicity in the tropics and subtropical regions and the recent work done on the synthesis of metal drug complexes of antimalarial drugs and the evaluation of their antimalarial activities in vitro, has led to the development of this study. Quinine-Zinc complex (QZ) was synthesized using a modification of Singla and Wadhwa method. Melting point determination, TLC analysis, in...

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by single-celled obligate parasite known as Plasmodium and is transmitted to man through the vector Anopheles mosquito. It has persistently been a major public health problem to the global community. As estimate has shown that globally, about 3.3 billion people were at risk of malaria in the year 2011. It has now been ranked among the world's top killer i...

Heme alkylation by the antimalarial drug artemisinin is reported in vivo, within infected mice that have been treated at pharmacologically relevant doses. Adducts resulting from the alkylation of heme by the drug were characterized in the spleen of treated mice, and their glucuroconjugated derivatives were present in the urine. Because these heme-artemisinin adducts were not observed in noninfe...
