Near-field localization by ultrashort femtosecond light pulses has been investigated using simple geometrical nanoapertures. The apertures employ circular, rhombic, and triangular shapes to localize the distribution of surface plasmon. To understand the geometrical effect on the localization, aperture length and period of the nanoapertures were varied. Aperture length was shown to affect the pe...

− This paper describes the uncertainty estimation of the size-of-source effect (SSE) measurement for the standard radiation thermometers in the indirect method using an integrating sphere with a black spot as the source. We checked the agreement between two processes of changing the black spot size and changing the aperture size. The SSE contributions of each uncertainty factors were analyzed.

scanning near-field optical microscopy (snom) is a member of scanning probe microscopes (spms) family which enables nanostructure investigation of the surfaces on a wide range of materials. in fact, snom combines the spm technology to the optical microscopy and in this way provide a powerful tool to study nano-structures with very high spatial resolution. in this paper, a qualified overview of ...

of reducing the unit cell size of microstrip reflectarray which is duplicated the same radiating aperture as quadratic backscatter. A reflectarrays with variable element sizes and reduced grid spacing have been designed at 10 GHz. For a given number of elements, it is shown that increased gain can be attainted for reduced unit cell size with no significant change in array size.

The air-seeding hypothesis predicts that xylem embolism resistance is linked directly to bordered pit functioning. We tested this prediction in trunks, roots, and branches at different vertical and radial locations in young and old trees of Pseudotsuga menziesii. Dimensions of bordered pits were measured from light and scanning electron micrographs, and physiological data were from published va...

Objective: Using Megavoltage photons generated by medical linear accelerator is a common modality for the treatment of malignant. The crucial problem for using photon beams >8MV is the photoneutron yields that increase the risk of secondary cancer that treated with high-energy photon beams. The contaminated neutrons produced in different components of the accelerator head and rely on many param...

This study aimed to measure acoustic access to the prostate for extracorporeal ultrasound ablation. Both transabdominal and transperineal approaches were considered. The objective was to measure the size and shape of the aperture available for unobstructed targeting of the prostate. CT images of 17 randomly selected men > 56 years of age were used to create 3D reconstructions of the lower abdom...

We developed a neural network model to simulate temporal coordination of human reaching and grasping under variable initial grip apertures and perturbations of object size and object location/orientation. The proposed model computes reach-grasp trajectories by continuously updating vector positioning commands. The model hypotheses are (1) hand/wrist transport, grip aperture, and hand orientatio...

Conventional image sensors have improved with technology scaling mainly by reducing pixel size to increase spatial resolution [1,2]. As resolution approaches the limits of existing optics, is there much to gain from further pixel scaling? In [3], we argue that further scaling can provide new imaging capabilities via a multi-aperture (MA) architecture, which consists of an array of small submicr...
