Exiguobacterium sp. strain S17 is a moderately halotolerant, arsenic-resistant bacterium that was isolated from Laguna Socompa stromatolites in the Argentinian Puna. The draft genome sequence suggests potent enzyme candidates that are essential for survival under multiple environmental extreme conditions, such as high levels of UV radiation, elevated salinity, and the presence of critical arsen...
This work investigates arsenic mobility, bioavailability and toxicity in marine port sediments using chemical sequential extraction and laboratory toxicity tests. Sediment samples were collected from two different Mediterranean ports, one highly polluted with arsenic and other inorganic and organic pollutants (Estaque port (EST)), and the other one, less polluted, with a low arsenic content (Sa...
The sulfate-reducing bacteria-mediated reduction process is considered to be an important mechanism affecting arsenic migration and transformation in anaerobic environments. To investigate the effect of bacteria a high-arsenic aquifer on transformation, typical Desulfovibrio vulgaris was selected for micro-cosmic experiments simulate groundwater environment with or without sulfate amendment. Fe...
Bacillus sp. strain CDB3, isolated from cattle dip sites in Australia, is highly resistant to arsenic. It contains 22 arsenic resistance (ars) genes, of which 17 are organized in 3 ars clusters. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of CDB3, which will assist us in understanding the overall ars mechanism.
Water contamination with heavy metals is increased due to environmental contaminants. Arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead are well-known toxic for humans. Lactobacillus acidophilus an ideal absorbent the removal of from drinking water. In this study, ability treated untreated L. ATCC 4356 remove four metals, simultaneously, multi-metallic contaminated water in 24 h was investigated. addition, s...
Listeria monocytogenes frequently exhibits resistance to arsenic. We report here the draft genome sequences of eight genetically diverse arsenic-resistant L. monocytogenes strains from human listeriosis and food-associated environments. The availability of these genomes will help elucidate the role of heavy-metal resistance in the ecology of L. monocytogenes.
Microbacterium sp. strain SZ1 isolated from gold ores of a Malaysia gold mine was found to be highly resistant to arsenic. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of SZ1, which may provide further insights into understanding its arsenic resistance mechanism. In this draft genome, a complete set of ars operons and two additional scattered ars genes were encoded.
Microorganisms influence the fate of metals in environment. Increasing anthropogenic and geogenic activity had increase the risk of arsenic pollution and this has forced the future research area to involve microbes-metal toxicity to achieve bioremediation. The present study deals with the role of arsenite transforming bacteria and incorporates them into remediation design. Sample was collected ...
