During an anti-doping investigation, the Spanish Guardia Civil confiscated blood bags from elite sportsmen. A novel immuno-purification method demonstrated that plasma samples with elevated erythropoietin (EPO) contained recombinant material (rEPO). This shows that rEPO is used before autologous blood transfusions and that rEPO analysis in plasma can be reliably addressed.

Introduction: Recently, soft tissue augmentation has become popular due to its simple usage. Autologous fat is one the safest fillers for this purpose. On the other hand, healing effects of autologous platelet gel on acute and chronic human skin wounds have been shown in some recent studies and there are some preliminary evidences in this subject. Therefore, in this study the effect of subc...

The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has proved promising regarding its applicability in dermatology, especially in the healing of chronic ulcers. The autologous platelet-rich plasma is obtained by centrifuging the blood, so that the components are separated by density gradient. The final product is a gel rich in growth factors that act in tissue repair by activating fibroblasts and inducing extracel...

BACKGROUND Plasma pheresis and reinfusion of platelet-rich plasma has not been shown to reduce blood loss in cardiac patients. Recently, freshly prepared autologous platelet concentrates (PC) can be made from patient's blood and has a higher concentration than conventional platelet rich plasma. In this study, the effects of autologous PC reinfusion were examined after open heart surgery in pati...

Biologically functional clade C envelope (Env) glycoproteins from the chronically (donor) and newly (recipient) infected partners of four heterosexual transmission pairs in Zambia were cloned and characterized previously. In each case, the donor viral quasispecies contained Envs that were resistant to autologous neutralization by contemporaneous plasma, while the recipient Envs were sensitive t...

Background: Velopharyngeal insufficiency causes hypernasal vocal quality and can also result in audible nasal air emission and difficulty in producing pressure consonants. The resulting speech is often socially unacceptable and can be difficult to understand. Platelet-rich plasma is an autologous derivative of whole blood. Today, the importance of clinical use of Platelet-rich plasma in the pla...

Management of osteoporotic fracture is challenging. In most clinical settings, skeletal regenerations are biologically optimized, but still many patients continue to experience delayed or impaired healing. Methods to enhance these healing processes, are needed to decrease patient’s agony, so that they can return to their work and regain their socioeconomic status in the community. Till this tim...

Sera and plasma from normal rats and rabbits were shown to be extremely toxic in vitro to autologous epidermal cells. On the other hand, mouse sera and newborn rat sera were innocuous to autologous epidermal cells. Viability of cells was assessed by the method of eosin dye exclusion upon 2 hour incubation at 37 degrees C. Testicular cells were also killed by autologous sera, but polymorphonucle...
