BACKGROUND Nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS) is a rare, inheritable, multisystem disorder characterized by numerous basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), maxillary keratocyst, and musculoskeletal malformations. Occasionally, it is associated with malignancies like rhabdomyoma, melanoma, and sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma, to name a few. METHODS A patient presented with NBCCS with a m...

BACKGROUND Basal cell carcinoma is the most frequent cancer in fair-skinned populations and dermoscopy is an important, non-invasive technique that aids in the diagnosis of Basal cell carcinoma. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between histopathological subtypes and dermoscopic features of Basal cell carcinoma. METHODS This study included 98 patients with cl...

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the skin, which originates from the basal cell layer of the skin. It is more common in white race with skin types I and II. Some predisposing factors are sunlight, ionizing radiation, arsenic salts, PUVA and scar. We present a case of BCC, which appeared over an old scar of localized cutaneous leishmaniasis in a 49-year-old woman.

Multiple immunohistochemical stains, including cytokeratin (CK)5/6, are used in a panel format to identify "basal-like" carcinomas. We set out to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the CK5 antibody (clone XM26) and compared its expression with that of CK5/6 (clone D5/16B4) in a variety of breast carcinoma cases. The study was performed on 3 breast carcinoma tissue microarrays (TMAs). ...

BACKGROUND Matrix-producing carcinoma (MPC) of the breast is one variant type of metaplastic carcinoma. The cellular origin of MPC remains unclear. It has been suggested the tumor cells in MPC have the combined characteristics of both epithelial cells and mesenchymal cells. Several reports suggested that the tumor cells in MPC might originate from the myoepithelial cells, but others suggested t...

Vismodegib (GDC-0449, 2-chloro-N-(4-chloro-3-(pyridin-2-yl)phenyl)-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzamide, Erivedge™) is a novel first-in-human, first-in class, orally bio-available Hedgehog pathway signaling inhibitor of the G-protein coupled receptor-like protein smoothened (SMO) which was approved in the United States on January 2012. This signaling pathway is involved in the carcinogenesis of several ...

• The use of immunohistochemistry for basal cell markers and AMACR for the diagnosis of limited adenocarcinoma of the prostate should be used as an adjunct to the H&E diagnosis as there is false positive and negative staining with these markers. • Examples of labeling of prostate adenocarcinoma with basal cell markers include: aberrant scattered HMWCK staining of cancer cells; rarely the retent...

Lymphoepithelial - like carcinoma, is rarely recognized in the urinary bladder and less commonly occurs with papillary transitional cell carcinoma i.e. mixed pattern. Also, less uncommon is the occurrence of carcinoma in situ changes in the adjacent urothelium of these tumors. Here, a case of lymphoepithelial – like carcinoma and papillary transitional cell carcinoma associated with carci...
