Among the more common types of intraoral minor salivary gland neoplasms are pleomorphic adenoma, basal cell adenoma, polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma, and adenoid cystic carcinoma. These minor salivary gland neoplasms share similar morphologic features and to a large extent immunohistochemical findings. Differentiation between these benign and malignant neoplasms is often predicated on the...
Sebaceous Nevus of Jadassohn is a hamartoma that is a combination of epidermal, follicular, sebaceous and apocrine gland abnormalities. Classically, several types of malignant and benign cutaneous neoplasms have been associated with this hamartoma. Due to the absence of a complete study in Iran for analysis of sebaceous Nevus(SN) incidence, its associated malignancy and developmental d...
Collision tumors consist of two different neoplasms occurring concurrently in the same lesion. This association has been described for both benign and malignant neoplasms that may be difficult to identify. Therefore, dermoscopy is a valuable tool to make a correct diagnosis. We report a very unusual collision tumor composed of both a dermatofibroma and a melanocytic nevus mimicking melanoma.
Historical data are presented for neoplasms and related proliferative lesions from 1,170 Sprague-Dawley rats that served as controls in 9 carcinogenicity (2 year) studies conducted in the Safety Evaluation Facility of Ciba-Geigy Corporation, Summit, New Jersey. The most common neoplasm was pituitary adenoma, which occurred in 62.2% of the male and 84.7% of the female rats. Incidences of other n...
Chronic sclerosing sialadenitis (CSS) (Kuttner's tumor) is a benign fibroinflammatory condition most commonly affecting the submandibular gland. It presents as hard mass that mimics salivary gland neoplasms. We report an unusual presentation of Kuttner's tumor parotid in order to raise awareness this rare and underreported entity.
Primary cardiac tumors involving the heart may be either benign or malignant. Most of the benign tumors are myxomas, which are most commonly located in the left atrium. Primary malignant neoplasms usually involve the myocardium and the interior of the cardiac cavities, whereas neoplasms metastatic to the heart most commonly involve pericardium, and pericardial effusion and constriction are the ...
BACKGROUND Immune escape is one prerequisite for the formation of neoplasms that is reflected by the pattern of immune cell infiltration. Abundant monocytic infiltration without apparent phagocytic activity is well known in human gliomas, while other types of human intracranial tumours have not yet been investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS We analysed LCA-positive lymphocytes and CD68-positive...
The activities of enzymes which synthesize and metabolize catecholestrogens were studied in biopsy samples of human breast neoplasms. Estrogen 2-hydroxylase, a cytochrome P-450-dependent enzyme, was present in both benign and malignant neoplasms but not in normal breast tissue. Catechol O-methyltransferase activity was present in all samples examined and was significantly higher in malignant tu...
Schwannomas are benign neoplasms with unknown etiology, which apparently arise from neural sheath Schwann cells. Intraoral schwannomas are solitary, slow-growing lesions occurring at different ages; these lesions are normally asymptomatic and in some cases, they are accompanied by pain and paresthesia if spotted in the intraosseous regions of the mandibles. Definitive diagnosis of schwannoma i...
