Animal botulism is mainly associated with Clostridium botulinum group III-producing neurotoxin types C, C/D, D, and D/C. In this report, we present the draft genome sequences of the first five strains of Clostridium botulinum type D/C isolated in Brazil and used for vaccination purposes.

Animal botulism is mainly associated with Clostridium botulinum group III strains producing neurotoxin types C, C/D, D, and D/C. In this report, we present the draft genome sequences of fourteen strains of Clostridium botulinum producing type C/D and two strains producing type D/C isolated in France, and one strain producing type D/C that originated from New Caledonia.

Here we report the genome sequence of a Clostridium botulinum strain IBCA10-7060 producing botulinum neurotoxin serotype B and a new toxin serotype. Multilocus sequence typing analysis revealed that this strain belongs to a new sequence type, and whole-genome single nucleotide polymorphism analysis showed that this strain clustered with strains in lineage 2 from group I.

Clostridium botulinum organisms generally produce 1 of 4 neurotoxin types (A, B, E, and F) associated with human illness. Neurotoxin type determination is important in identification of the bacterium. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was developed to identify 24 h botulinal cultures as potential types A, B, E, and F neurotoxin producers as well as other clostridial species which also pr...

Botulism is a potentially fatal paralytic disease caused by the action of botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) on nerve cells. There are 7 known serotypes (A-G) of BoNT and up to 40 genetic variants. Clostridium botulinum strain IBCA10-7060 was recently reported to produce BoNT serotype B (BoNT/B) and a novel BoNT, designated as BoNT/H. The BoNT gene (bont) sequence of BoNT/H was compared to known bont ...

BACKGROUND Botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) is the active substance in preparations used for the highly effective treatment of neurologic disorders such as cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, or spasticity, as well as other indications such as axillary and palmar hyperhidrosis, and urologic disorders. OBJECTIVE To determine the amount of BoNT/A protein present in pharmaceutical preparations...

The neurotoxins produced by Clostridium botulinum strains are among the world's most potent toxins and are the causative agents of paralytic botulism. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of the group III C. botulinum strain Eklund-C, including a pseudolysogen-like bacteriophage that harbors the type C neurotoxin operon.

In two outbreaks of food-borne botulism in France, Clostridium botulinum type A was isolated and characterized from incriminated foods. Botulinum neurotoxin type A was detected in the patients' sera by mouse bioassay and in vitro endopeptidase assay with an immunocapture step and identification of the cleavage products by mass spectrometry.

We report the draft genome sequence of Clostridium botulinum strain 277-00, which encodes a botulinum neurotoxin B2 associated with a ha gene locus. Strain 277-00 was isolated from a cheese responsible for an outbreak of botulism in Iran in 1997. This strain is closed to the bivalent B2/FA strain IBCA10-7060.
