In this paper, a new box-counting method to achieve highly specific topological fingerprinting of architecture in relation the position observer and context its surroundings is proposed. Central use 360-degree spherical panoramas as basis for fractal measurement. Thus, number problems comparative analysis dimension field are explicitly implicitly addressed, first foremost being question choosin...

Introduction Stripped to its essence, the highest requirement of any election is that it produces an accurate published count of the eligible voters’ intended choices – that is, it must be “counted-as-intended.” Typically, this process is divided into two stages: casting and counting. To maintain the electorate’s belief and willingness to be bound by the outcome of an election, both voters and ...

This paper introduces amodified formula for the fractal box counting dimension. Themethod is based on utilization of the probability distribution formula in the fractal box count. The purpose of this method is to use it for the discrimination of oil spill areas from the surrounding features, e.g., sea surface and lookalikes in RADARSAT-1 SAR Wide beam mode (W1) and Standard beam mode (S2) data ...

A new method for calculating fractal dimension is developed in this paper. The method is based on the box dimension concept; however, it involves direct estimation of a suboptimal covering of the data set of interest. By finding a suboptimal cover, this method is better able to estimate the required number of covering elements for a given cover size than is the standard box counting algorithm. ...

We measure the fractal dimension of an African plant that is widely cultivated as ornamental, the Asparagus plumosus. This plant presents self-similarity, remarkable in at least two different scalings. In the following, we present the results obtained by analyzing this plant via the box counting method for three different scalings. We show in a quantitatively way that this species is a fractal.

This work presents a new Visual Basic 6.0 application for estimating the fractal dimension of images, based on an optimized version of the box-counting algorithm. Following the attempt to separate the real information from “noise”, we considered also the family of all band-pass filters with the same band-width (specified as parameter). The fractal dimension can be thus represented as a function...

In this paper, the dynamical behavior of different optimal iterative schemes for solving nonlinear equations with increasing order, is studied. The tendency of the complexity of the Julia set is analyzed and referred to the fractal dimension. In fact, this fractal dimension can be shown to be a powerful tool to compare iterative schemes that estimate the solution of a nonlinear equation. Based ...

In this paper, we have developed a method to compute fractal dimension (FD) of discrete time signals, in the time domain, by modifying the box-counting method. The size of the box is dependent on the sampling frequency of the signal. The number of boxes required to completely cover the signal are obtained at multiple time resolutions. The time resolutions are made coarse by decimating the signa...
