PURPOSE To assess the extent of osseointegration with rough-surface implants and new bone formation (NBF) within human freeze-dried bone blocks (h-FDB) grafted over rabbit calvaria. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 18 rectangular h-FDB blocks were stabilized bilaterally to the calvaria of nine New Zealand rabbits by two mini titanium screws each. A total of 18 rough-surface implants (5.0 × 6....

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Tuberculosis of the calvaria is a rare entity, and only anecdotal reports describing its imaging features have been previously published in the literature. We report the role of conventional radiography and CT findings on in the evaluation of calvarial tuberculosis in 42 cases. METHODS Forty-two cases of pathologically verified calvarial tuberculosis were analyzed retro...

Objective- Bone regeneration is a multifactorial phenomenon which contributed to several factors. It is reported that risedronate is effective for musculoskeletal diseases. The current study was to determine effectiveness of the risedronate-loaded nano capsules for calvaria healing in rabbit.Design- Experimental study.Procedures- 15 white adult male New Zealand rabbits were used. Fo...

Rat calvaria cells (RC cells) and monkey periodontal ligament fibroblasts (MPL cells) were cultured for 4-6 days with demineralized dentine, acid-washed glass particles or untreated glass particles to determine whether the presence of these particles can affect the orientation of the cells. Encapsulation of dentine particles began as early as the first day in culture and occasional cells were a...

Osseous hemangiomas of the calvaria account for about 0.2% of bone neoplasms. We report a case of an extensive intraosseous cavernous hemangioma in a 46-year-old woman. MR imaging showed a mass in the right frontal bone with intra- and extracranial extension and a dural tail sign after gadopentetate dimeglumine administration, mimicking a meningioma in which the dural tail sign was due to a dir...

Chick calvaria labeled in vitro contain a triple-stranded collagen precursor that contains two pro alpha1 and one pro alpha2 chains. All chains contain cystine and are linked by S-S bonds. Ultracentrifugal analysis was used to measure the relative size of the disulfide-linked units. It is proposed that the S-S links help to determine the correct alignment of the triple-stranded structure.

Eosinophilic granuloma, Hand-Schuller-Christian disease, and Letterer-Siwe disease are three disorders characterized by proliferating histiocytes. Collectively, they are called histiocytosis X. Histiocytosis X often presents with lytic calvarial lesions [1]. Hypothalamic involvement is the most common intracranial manifestation [2]. Solitary histiocytosis X within the cerebral hemispheres, alth...
