Campylobacter is the most commonly reported enteric bacterial pathogen in humans. We still do not have any systematic data concerning campylobacteriosis in Bulgaria. For that reason, we present data of the thermophilic Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli in the aetiology of diarrhoeal diseases in Sofia, for the period from 1987 to 2008. The study included patients from 0 to over 65 year...

A DNA microarray for detection of Campylobacter spp. was recently developed and applied to detect Campylobacter spp. directly from chicken feces. Sixty-five pooled chicken cloacal swab samples from 650 individual broiler chickens were included in the study. The results of Campylobacter sp. detection obtained with DNA microarrays were compared to those obtained by conventional culture and gel el...

The faecal indicator bacterium Escherichia coli and thermotolerant Campylobacter spp., which are potentially pathogenic, were investigated in the Toenepi Stream draining a pastoral catchment dominated by dairying. Bacteria concentrations were monitored routinely at fortnightly intervals over 12 months and intensively during storm events to compare the transport dynamics of bacterial indicator a...

While characterizing the intestinal bacterial community of broiler chickens, we detected epsilon-proteobacterial DNA in the ilea of 3-day-old commercial broiler chicks (J. Lu, U. Idris, B. Harmon, C. Hofacre, J. J. Maurer, and M. D. Lee, Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 69:6816-6824, 2003). The sequences exhibited high levels of similarity to Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli sequences, sugg...

BACKGROUND Campylobacter infections occur worldwide. A recent study in Kampala, Uganda, found that 87% of broiler chickens had Campylobacter jejuni; these are potential source of human infection. Isolation rate in developing countries is between 5-35%. This study aimed at finding prevalence of children with campylobacter infection among children with acute diarrhea attending Mulago hospital. ...

The isolation and characterization of Campylobacter species from camel was carried out in Sokoto state, Nigeria. A total of 504 faecal specimens from camels were analyzed for the presence of campylobacter species by standard culture techniques. Isolates were characterized by conventional phenotypic tests and confirmed by latex agglutination. The thermophilic Campylobacter species (C. jejuni, C....

The luciferin-luciferase bioluminescence reaction was used to estimate cell numbers of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli in broth cultures based on a linear relationship between cell numbers (in excess of 10(4) to 10(5] and ATP levels. The sensitivity was lower than that obtained with Escherichia coli. The calculated amount of intracellular ATP per cell of C. jejuni and C. coli ranged...

Bacteria is the main cause of genital disorder. Abortion, recurrent abortion and placenta retention are disorder accompanying with pregnancy failure. The current study aimed to find relationship between this Campylobacter infection species related For purpose, 50 aborted fetuses vaginal swabs were collected. Case history multiplex PCR applied. result showed that detected at a rate 26% in cases ...

The complete genome sequences of Campylobacter coli strains HC2-48, CF2-75, and CO2-160, isolated from retail beef liver, showed the presence of 1,663,782-, 1,711,393-, and 1,683,224-bp circular chromosomes and 44,064-, 44,233-, and 44,228-bp circular plasmids, respectively. This is the first reported Campylobacter coli genome sequence isolated from retail beef liver.
