Polyvinyl pyrrolidone stabilized rhodium nanoparticles are highly soluble in hydroxyl-functionalized ionic liquids, providing an effective and highly stable catalytic system. In hydrogenation reactions, excellent results were obtained, and transmission electron microscopy, solubility determinations, and leaching experiments were employed to quantify the advantages of this catalytic system.

The synthesis, characterization, and catalytic properties of 1-3 nm-diameter bimetallic PdAu dendrimer-encapsulated catalysts are reported. Both alloy and core/shell PdAu nanoparticles were prepared. The catalytic hydrogenation of allyl alcohol was significantly enhanced in the presence of the alloy and core/shell PdAu nanoparticles as compared to mixtures of single-metal nanoparticles.

The stoichiometric reaction of trityl cation with two equivalents of Ph2PH affords the phosphine stabilized phosphenium salt [Ph2(H)PPPh2][B(C6F5)4] via hydride abstraction, while catalytic amounts of B(p-HC6F4)3 effects catalytic phosphine dehydrocoupling with the liberation of H2. This reaction is accelerated by the presence of olefin or imine, effecting concurrent hydrogenation.
