The main limitation to the industrial scale hydrolysis of cellulose is the cost of cellulase production. This study evaluated cellulase and xylanase enzyme production by the cellulolytic mutant Penicillium echinulatum 9A02S1 using pretreated sugar cane bagasse as a carbon source. Most cultures grown with pretreated bagasse showed similar enzymatic activities to or higher enzymatic activities th...

Seven xylanolytic bacterial strains were isolated from saw-dust dump soil. The bacterial strain X6 was selected on the basis of the highest xylanase activity with no cellulase contamination. It was identified as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia by biochemical tests and 16S rRNA gene sequencing approach. Xylanase production studies by S. maltophilia on different commercial xylans and agro-industrial...

The addition of Tween 80 and sucrose monopalmitate, nonionic surfactants, to fungal cultures resulted in marked increases in yields of the enzymes cellulase, amylase, sucrase, beta-1 --> 3 glucanase, xylanase, purine nucleosidase, and benzoyl esterase. The action appears to be an effect of the surfactant on cell permeability.

Bacillus sp. ASX42 isolated from soil samples of Lake Van shores, Turkey, and the strain producing cellulose-free xylanase enzyme with an optimum pH 9.0, at 60ºC. The molecular weight was estimated as 66 kDa on SDS PAGE analysis. Thermal stability detected average 68.7% 4-60ºC 60% 65-95ºC while observed about 90% between 3.5-13.0 for 15 min. As HgCl2 presented a strong inhibitor activity, Cobal...

Xylanases are hydrolytic enzymes which cleave the β-1, 4 backbone of the complex plant cell wall polysaccharide xylan. Xylan is the major hemicellulosic constituent found in soft and hard food. It is the next most abundant renewable polysaccharide after cellulose. Xylanases and associated debranching enzymes produced by a variety of microorganisms including bacteria, actinomycetes, yeast and fu...

Previously, our laboratory has screened and identified Bacillus spp. isolates as direct-fed microbials (DFM). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the cellulase and xylanase production of these isolates and select the most appropriate Bacillus spp. candidates for DFM. Furthermore, an in vitro digestive model, simulating different compartments of the gastrointestinal tract, was used ...

BACKGROUND Trichoderma reesei is an organism involved in degradation of (hemi)cellulosic biomass. Consequently, the corresponding enzymes are commonly used in different types of industries, and recently gained considerable importance for production of second-generation biofuel. Many industrial T. reesei strains currently in use are derived from strain Rut-C30, in which cellulase and hemicellula...

Ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass has been recognized as one of the most promising alternatives for the production of renewable and sustainable energy. However, one of the major bottlenecks holding back its commercialization is the high costs of the enzymes needed for biomass conversion. In this work, we studied the enzymes produced from a selected strain of Aspergillus niger under solid sta...

Recently, xylanases have expanded their use in many processing industries, such as pulp and paper, food and textile. The production of xylanase by the fungus Penicillium sclerotiorum under submerse cultivation was investigated. Oat spelts xylan and wheat bran were the best inducers of xylanase activity. Optimal xylanase production was obtained in liquid Vogel medium, pH 6.5, at 30oC, under stat...

Twenty-seven thermophilic and thermotolerant fungal strains were isolated from soil, decaying organic matter and sugarcane piles based on their ability to grow at 45°C on medium containing corn straw and cardboard as carbon sources. These fungi were identified in the genera Aspergillus, Thermomyces, Myceliophthora, Thermomucor and Candida. The majority of the isolated strains produced xylanase ...
