An accessory middle cerebral artery is one variation of the intracranial vasculature that may be a source of misinterpretation by clinicians dealing with cerebrovascular diseases. We report a case of an elderly female found to have bilateral accessory middle cerebral arteries, who presented with the rupture of an aneurysm of the anterior part of the circle of Willis. Accessory middle cerebral a...

A Cerebral aneurysm is an abnormal bulging outward of one of cerebral arteries and is common lesion in the adult population. Cerebral aneurysm occurs in 1~5% of people which translates to 10 million to 12 million persons in the United States [1, 2]Approximately 0.2 to 3 percent of people with an aneurysm suffer from rupture per year. Ruptured aneurysm is the leading cause of subarachnoid hemorr...

Therapeutic guidelines of intravenous thrombolysis with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) for hyperacute ischemic stroke are very strict. Because of potential higher risk of bleeding complications, the presence of unruptured cerebral aneurysm is a contraindication for systemic thrombolysis with tPA. According to the standard CT criteria, a 66-year-old woman who suddenly developed aphasia and h...

A case is presented of a 67-year-old woman with hypertension and arteriosclerosis who died from cerebral infarction. There was an associated arteriosclerotic aneurysm of the right vertebral artery, and incidental congenital or berry aneurysms of the anterior communicating and left internal carotid or anterior cerebral artery. The latter aneurysm was situated within the left optic nerve.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Inertial force of the bloodstream results in the local elevation of intravascular pressure secondary to flow impact. Previous studies suggest that this "impacting force" and the local pressure elevation at the aneurysm may have a large contribution to the development of cerebral aneurysms. The goal of the present study is to evaluate how the bloodstream impacting force an...

Scissoring of the cerebral aneurysm clip blades is a rare but potentially devastating complication of clipping surgery and results in aneurysm neck injury inducing rupture and/or cerebral infarction. Scissoring has been reported using titanium straight clips. Here we present two unusual cases of crossing of the blades of titanium bayonet clips by a scissors-like mechanism during surgery. The pr...

We describe and analyze the flow dynamics in replicas of a human anterior communicating artery aneurysm. The replicas were placed in a circuit of pulsating non-Newtonian fluid, and flows were adjusted to replicate human physiologic parameters. Individual slipstreams were opacified with isobaric dyes, and images were recorded on film and by CT/MR angiography. When flow in the afferent (internal ...

It is well known that spontaneous thrombosis in giant cerebral aneurysm is common. However, spontaneous obliteration of a non-giant and unruptured cerebral aneurysm has been reported to be rare and its pathogenic mechanism is not clear. We describe a case with rare vascular phenomenon and review the relevant literatures.

A rare case with a ruptured aneurysm of pericallosal artery and extensive hemorrhage located predominantly in the contralateral cerebral hemisphere, evaluated by computed tomography and angiography, was reported. The clinical, radiological and surgical findings of a ruptured aneurysm of pericallosal artery were analyzed. The variable CT patterns of ruptured aneurysms of anterior cerebral artery ...

Inflammatory carotid artery aneurysm is a rare complication of acute paranasal sinusitis. A 50-year-old female presented with a ruptured giant carotid artery aneurysm secondary to infection of the sphenoid sinus and cavernous sinus. She had been healthy until 5 days before admission, when she developed orbital phlegmon and meningitis. She received antibiotic therapy for 10 days. Computed tomogr...
