Palladium supported on high-surface-area ceria effectively catalyzes the hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. Activation of H2 at Pd sites and phenol at surface ceria sites was investigated by probing the redox properties of the catalyst and studying the mechanism of phenol adsorption. Temperature-programmed reduction and pulsed chemisorption we...

This paper discusses the effect of adding reduced erbium-doped ceria nanoparticles (REDC NPs) as a coating on silicon solar cells. Reduced ceria nanoparticles doped with erbium have the advantages of both improving conductivity and optical conversion of solar cells. Oxygen vacancies in ceria nanoparticles reduce Ce4+ to Ce3+ which follow the rule of improving conductivity of solar cells through...

INTRODUCTION Interactions of the ceria particles with polyurethane surfaces are of great interest for polishing processes used in modern semiconductor industry. Specifically, ceria abrasive nanoparticles and polyurethane polishing pads are now broadly used in the process called Chemical-Mechanical Planarization/Polishing (CMP) [1,2,3]. To optimize the process of CMP, various chemicals, abrasive...

The first target of any therapy for retinal neurodegeneration is to slow down the progression of the disease and to maintain visual function. Cerium oxide or ceria nanoparticles reduce oxidative stress, which is known to play a pivotal role in neurodegeneration. Our aim was to investigate whether cerium oxide nanoparticles were able to mitigate neurodegeneration including microglial activation ...

This paper demonstrates the key role of the property-structure relationship of the support on iron/ceria catalysts on the hydrocarbon selectivity and olefin-to-paraffin ratio for the direct hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into hydrocarbons. The effect is directly related to the reducibility of the different nanostructured ceria supports and their interaction with the iron particles. Herein, we ...

Copper oxide supported on ceria has been investigated for the selective hydrogenation of octadecanoic acid to octadecanol. At reaction conditions of 5 bar H2 at 250 C, 75 % alcohol yield with 100 % selectivity can be achieved. The Cu species formed under the experimental conditions and ceria support likely show synergy for the selective hydrogenation of acids into alcohols.

The structural, chemical and electronic changes of ceria as a function of decreasing particle size have been studied: at sizes below 5 nm the total amount of reducible oxygen dramatically increases due to superoxide formation on the ceria surface, a result indicative of a size dependent oxygen buffering capacity.

This work investigated the effect of Pt nanoparticles embedded into CeO2 ([email protected]2) and CeZrO2 on carbon removal mechanism for dry reforming methane, in comparison to impregnated Pt/CeO2. Morphological structural characterization by TEM Raman spectroscopy showed that sintering is suppressed both structures doping with Zr led solid solution formation. A combination TPR, oxygen isotopic...

Three CuO/CeO2 catalyst with different morphologies of ceria, namely nanospheres, nanorods and nanocubes, were synthesized and used to catalyze the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. The reactivity tests showed that the Cu supported on the ceria nanospheres exhibited both the highest activity and superior stability when compared with the nanocube and nanorod ceria catalysts. Operando X-ray diffrac...

An important part of fundamental research in catalysis is based on theoretical and modeling foundations which are closely connected with studies of single-crystalline catalyst surfaces. These so-called model catalysts are often prepared in the form of epitaxial thin films, and characterized using advanced material characterization techniques. This concept provides the fundamental understanding ...
