The Cactus software is representative for a whole class of scientific applications; typically those that are tightly coupled, have regular space decomposition, and huge memory and processor time requirements. Cactus proved to be a valuable tool for astrophysicists, who first initiated its development. However, today’s fastest supercomputers are not powerful enough to perform realistically large...

Distributed applications are increasingly using distributed object platforms such as CORBA, DCOM, and Java RMI to standardize object interactions. With this increased use comes the increased need for providing enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) attributes related to fault tolerance, security, and timeliness. This paper describes an approach to implementing such enhancements in a transparent, hig...

Life-history theory suggests that iteroparous plants should be flexible in their allocation of resources toward growth and reproduction. Such plasticity could have consequences for herbivores that prefer or specialize on vegetative versus reproductive structures. To test this prediction, we studied the response of the cactus bug (Narnia pallidicornis) to meristem allocation by tree cholla cactu...

For a given graph G, maximum internal spanning tree of G is with number vertices. The Maximum Internal Spanning Tree (MIST) problem to find the graph. MIST generalization Hamiltonian path problem. Since NP-hard, even for bipartite and chordal graphs, two important subclasses also remains NP-hard these classes. In this paper, we propose linear-time algorithms compute cographs, block cactus chain...

Cactus pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) fruit is a berry with a tasty pulp full of seeds that constitutes about 10-15% of the edible pulp. In Mexico, cactus pear is mainly consumed fresh, but also has the potential to be processed in other products such as juice. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different ultrasound conditions at amplitude levels ranging (40% and 60% for 10,...

The effects on dielaidoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DEPE) bilayers of ceramides containing different N-acyl chains have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry small angle x-ray diffraction and (31)P-NMR spectroscopy. N-palmitoyl (Cer16), N-hexanoyl (Cer6), and N-acetyl (Cer2) sphingosines have been used. Both the gel-fluid and the lamellar-inverted hexagonal transitions of DEPE have b...

We address the problem of finding a 1-median on a cactus graph. The problem has already been solved in linear time by the algorithms of Burkard and Krarup (1998), and Lan and Wang (2000). These algorithms are complicated and need efforts. Hence, we develop in this paper a simpler algorithm. First, we construct a condition for a cycle that contains a 1-median or for a vertex that is indeed a 1-m...

The Sadhana index (Sd) is a newly introduced cyclic index. Efficient formulae for calculating the Sd (Sadhana) index of linear phenylenes are given and a simple relation is established between the Sd index of phenylenes and of the corresponding hexagonal sequences.

Two-dimensional (2-D) spatially varying convolutional filters for three-dimensional (3-D) depth extrapolation are efficiently designed and implemented by using McClellan transformations. Although efficient, McClellan transformations only approximate circularly symmetric depth extrapolation filters. The accuracy of the extrapolation filters can be increased only at an increase in the computation...

We extend to the clover improved lattice formulation of QCD the resummation of cactus diagrams, i.e. a certain class of tadpole-like gauge invariant diagrams. Cactus resummation yields an improved perturbative expansion. We apply it to the lattice renormalization of some two-fermion operators improving their one-loop perturbative estimates.
