Most medium access control (MAC) mechanisms discard collided packets and consider interference harmful. Recent work on Analog Network Coding (ANC) suggests a different approach, in which multiple interfering transmissions are strategically scheduled. Receiving nodes collect the results of collisions and then use a decoding process, such as ZigZag decoding, to extract the packets involved in the...

The citation impact of Environment and Planning B can be visualized using its citation relations with journals in its environment as the links of a network. The size of the nodes is varied in correspondence to the relative citation impact in this environment. Additionally, one can correct for the effect of within-journal “self”-citations. The network can be partitioned and clustered using algor...

For several decades, a leading paradigm of how to quantitatively assess scientific research has been the analysis of the aggregated citation information in a set of scientific publications. Although the representation of this information as a citation network has already been coined in the 1960s, it needed the systematic indexing of scientific literature to allow for impact metrics that actuall...

Machine Learning techniques can be applied to citation data from a network of papers to predict the author of a paper that is currently outside of the network. Using a series of models we have found that we can increase the accuracy from past experiments with citation data, by considering the citations as a network. This allows us to predict with confidence the author of a blind paper.

BACKGROUND The analysis of co-authorship network aims at exploring the impact of network structure on the outcome of scientific collaborations and research publications. However, little is known about what network properties are associated with authors who have increased number of joint publications and are being cited highly. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Measures of social network analysis...

This study is to describe the knowledge network of strategic alliance studies embedded in the leading articles and to explore the key research themes in this field between 1999 and 2008. A total of 521 articles with 21,493 cited references were extracted from the Social Science Citation Index and the Science Citation Index. By using bibliometric methods, the citation and co-citation counts obta...

Introduction Models which reproduce key features of the distribution citations to academic papers have a long history (Price, 1965). One aim is to illustrate if certain simple processes can explain important features. In this paper we focus on the fact that the distribution of citations for papers of a similar age scales primarily with the average number of citations (Radicchi, Fortunato, & Cas...

We calculate resistance distances between papers in a nearly bipartite citation network of 492 papers and the sources cited by them. We validate that this is a realistic measure of thematic distance if each citation link has an electric resistance equal to the geometric mean of the number of the paper’s references and the citation number of the cited source.
