PURPOSE OF REVIEW The purpose of this review is to focus on recent research that has addressed the relative merits of computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) and ventilation perfusion (V/Q) scanning for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. RECENT FINDINGS Computed tomographic pulmonary angiography is the most sensitive test for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism and its use has bee...

A 48-year old man complained of dyspnoea and palpitation for 6 h. There was no history of trauma and angina. The initial ECG and laboratory tests showed no evidence of myocardial infarction. Computed tomographic angiography revealed left ventricular free wall rupture while coronary angiography was negative. Surgical intervention was carried out, and the perforation was repaired (Figs 1 and 2). ...

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is a rare but potentially life-threatening event associated with the peripartum period. We present a case of postpartum multivessel spontaneous coronary artery dissection diagnosed by conventional angiography and monitored with computed tomographic coronary angiography. The patient was initially managed medically and later received a coronary stent.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE An atypical form of fibromuscular dysplasia located in the internal carotid-bulb (CaFMD) is thought to be uncommon and is poorly described as a cause of ischemic stroke in the young. This study aimed to obtain a better description of CaFMD in Afro-Caribbean population, who could be particularly affected by it. METHODS This study included consecutive patients <55 years c...

OBJECTIVE Computed tomographic angiography (CTA) can be used to obtain 3-dimensional vascular images and soft-tissue definition. The goal of this study was to evaluate the reliability, usefulness, and pitfalls of CTA in preoperative planning of microvascular reconstructive surgery. METHODS A retrospective review of patients who obtained preoperative CTA in preparation for planned microvascula...

ABSTRACT Arterioportal communications are complex hepatic vascular abnormalities. These rarely seen in dogs and typically manifest as neurological, gastrointestinal, developmental changes. This report describes clinical, laboratory imaging findings associated with arterioportal malformation a male Shih-Tzu dog aged 12 months. The diagnosis was achieved using computed tomographic angiography. th...

BACKGROUND Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) has gained wide acceptance in the evaluation of the cardiovascular system. Of particular clinical interest is its ability to non-invasively evaluate coronary arteries in patients presenting to the emergency room. In acute coronary syndromes, myocardial ischemia is most often caused by atherosclerosis. We present a case of a rare cause of acute...

Subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to ruptured aneurysm is a critical clinical situation demanding a very skilled surgical and medical management. Until now cerebral digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been used as the criterion standard for aneurysmal detection and planning of their microsurgical treatment. However, as the method for diagnosis of subarachnoid hemorrhage moved from lumbar ...

Pseudoaneurysms of the Profunda Femoris Artery are rare, and their clinical assessment can be challenging due to the deep anatomical location of the vessel. Thus, computed tomography angiography imaging plays a vital role in establishing the diagnosis. However, in the presented case of a young man with the Profunda Femoris Artery branch pseudoaneurysm following a penetrating lower limb trauma, ...

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES Left atrial volume (LAV) measurement by conventional two-dimensional (2D) transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) may be limited by the geometric model, by suboptimal definition of left atrial endocardium, or by chamber foreshortening. Three-dimensional (3D) TTE is posited to eliminate chamber foreshortening, and LAV measurement by 3D TTE should be more reflective of true ...
