Binning is a categorization process to transform a continuous variable into a small set of groups or bins. Binning is widely used in credit scoring. In particular, it can be used to define the Weight of Evidence (WOE) transformation. In this paper, we first derive an explicit solution to a logistic regression model with one independent variable that has undergone a WOE transformation. We then u...

D IFFERENCES in type (mutton conformation) and condition (degree of fatness) are generally considered to be responsible for differences in the price per pound when range lambs are sold on the market. Since these traits are most evident when the first culling of lambs occurs soon after weaning, it seems probable that they receive considerable emphasis in most sheep breeding enterprises. Despite ...

BACKGROUND In conditions like acute appendicitis it is impractical to have definitive diagnosis by gold standard test (histopathology) before surgery, we would like a simple test like Alvarado scoring system which depends on the presence and absence of certain variables and which provides an accurate guide to whether or not the patient has the condition. This study was conducted to evaluate Alv...

Scoring functions are an important tool for quantifying properties of interest in many domains; for example, in healthcare, a disease severity scores are used to diagnose the patient’s condition and to decide its further treatment. Scoring functions might be obtained based on the domain knowledge or learned from data by using classification, regression or ranking techniques depending on the typ...

AIMS Chronic heart failure is a common condition with high mortality. Accurate diagnosis in primary care is difficult. Elevated B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is associated with left ventricular systolic dysfunction and increased mortality. Prognostic scoring systems using BNP may help to stratify risk in primary care patients. The aim of this research was to establish the independent variabl...

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a dynamic, stochastic, mechanistic simulation model of a dairy business to evaluate the cost and benefit streams coinciding with technology investments. The model was constructed to embody the biological and economical complexities of a dairy farm system within a partial budgeting framework. A primary objective was to establish a flexible, user-...

MOTIVATION Current high-throughput protein-protein interaction (PPI) data do not provide information about the condition(s) under which the interactions occur. Thus, the identification of condition-responsive PPI sub-networks is of great importance for investigating how a living cell adapts to changing environments. RESULTS In this article, we propose a novel edge-based scoring and searching ...

Practical, rapid, noninvasive methods for assessing health status and establishing endpoints are needed in mouse experiments in which wasting and death are a potential end-point, including aging and toxicology studies, ascites production, and phenotype analysis in mutant mouse colonies. Current methods for assessing the health status of a mouse and establishing endpoints might include observati...

Scoring rules measure the deviation between a credence assignment and reality. Probabilism holds that only those assignments satisfy axioms of probability are rationally admissible. Accuracy-based arguments for probabilism observe given certain conditions on scoring rule, score any non-probability is dominated by probability. The in we will consider include propriety: claim expected accuracy p ...

Fluid balance is essential for normal functioning of the body. Oliguria (poor urine output) is usually associated with low circulatory blood volume (hypovolaemia), and can be a sign that a patient is acutely ill and deteriorating. Early warning scoring systems should identify the condition so that appropriate interventions can be undertaken to restore urine output and protect renal function.
