By making a renormalization group analysis we explore the possibility of having a 331 model as the only intermediate gauge group between the standard model and the scale of unification of the three coupling constants. We shall assume that there is no necessarily a group of grand unification at the scale of convergence of the couplings. With this scenario, different 331 models and their correspo...

Abstract Introduction Low testosterone has been suggested as a contributor to mortality and rejection after solid organ transplant. Whether therapy specifically improves these outcomes is unknown. Objective To determine whether treatment of low with associated improved or transplant using TriNetX, large deidentified, multi-institutional database. Methods We compiled all clinical data from the T...

Hotspots of rapid genome evolution hold clues about human adaptation. We present a comparative analysis of nine whole-genome sequenced primates to identify high-confidence targets of positive selection. We find strong statistical evidence for positive selection in 331 protein-coding genes (3%), pinpointing 934 adaptively evolving codons (0.014%). Our new procedure is stringent and reveals subst...

Childbearing and use of oral contraceptives are known to lower the risk of ovarian cancer, and it has been suggested that progesterone or progestin exposures play a role in these associations. The effects of progesterone may be mediated in part through the progesterone receptor, which exists in two functionally distinct protein isoforms, hPR-A and hPR-B. It is known that individuals carrying th...

We calculate the exact tree-level scalar mass matrices resulting from symmetry breaking using the most general gauge-invariant scalar potential of the 331 model, both with and without the condition that lepton number is conserved. Physical masses are also obtained in some cases, as well as couplings to standard and exotic gauge bosons.

about 38% for females and 28% for males. In an ongoing study, mice are being fed rapamycin beginning at 270 days, with a significant increase in survival also being apparent in this cohort. Rapamycin was first identified as a natural product of the bacterium Streptomyces hygroscopicus in soil samples from Easter Island — famous for its impressive rock-carved human statues (Fig. 1). The compound...

Two parameters are commonly used for the evaluation of antibiotic efficacy in animal models: bacterial counts in tissue fluids and survival rate. The second parameter is easy to assess and seems more relevant from the clinical perspective; a curative dose is used as a reliable end-point for showing subtle differences in antibiotic behaviour. Reduction in bacterial counts provides information on...
