The aim of this review was to analyze the potential effects of environmental chemicals on homeostatic control related to glycemia and energy balance. Many of the environmental chemicals can mimic or interfere with the action of hormones and are generally referred to as "endocrine disruptors". Among these compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins, phthalates and bisphenol-A have been correla...
Background: Euglycaemic ketoacidosis is a rare type of metabolic acidosis, with increased production ketonic bodies and normal serum glucose. When it occurs during pregnancy, might lead to adverse maternal fetal outcomes. Pregnancy itself diabetogenic state that predispose the patient develop following even relatively short periods starvation as such, high index suspicion required for diagnosis...
Two newly synthesized nitrosoureido sugars have been evaluated for their antitumor activity and diabetogenic potential in a number of in vitro and in vivo preclinical tumor model systems. 2-Amino-2-deoxy-N'-methyl-N'-nitrosoureido-1,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-alpha- D- mannopyranose (MAZ), a lipophilic mannosamine derivative, and ethyl-6-deoxy-3,5-di-O-methyl-6-(3-methyl-3-nitrosoureido)-alph a- D-gl...
l. The immunological cross-reaction of bovine growth hormone (BGH, NIH-GH-D8) with the antiserum to the bovine diabetogenic protein (BDP) has been determined to be the result of contamination of the BGH preparation with a highly anionic protein. 2. This highly anionic protein is probably BDP.
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease possible to treat via pancreas/islet transplantation but most immunosuppressive drugs are diabetogenic. In this letter, we review current up to date methods to assess insulin action and secretion (using the surrogate indexes) suggesting their use in large studies in populations of pancreas/ islets transplanted patients.
