This thesis describes efforts made on the development of an existing catalytic incinerator. The development work, called process characterization, consists of four general parts. These are the development of measurement methodology, the studying of construction materials, the selection of suitable catalysts and the testing of the effects of process operation conditions. The two application area...

For a long time biomimetic oxidation catalysis was mainly associated with metal porphyrin complexes. Phthalocyanine complexes, also belonging to large family of macrocyclic complexes have been under-investigated as catalysts until recently. In this review, we present the development phthalocyanine catalytic chemistry at IRCELYON topical focus on contributions from our group during last 20 years...

Using a chemical vapor deposition method with regulated sample temperatures under ambient pressure conditions, we were able to fully decorate the internal structure of a mesoporous Al2O3 bead (~1 mm in particle diameter) with iron oxide nanoparticles (with a mean lateral size of less than 1 nm). The iron oxide-decorated Al2O3 showed a high CO oxidation reactivity, even at room temperature. Very...

In this work, several nanostructured ceria catalysts were prepared by means of a hydrothermal procedure, in which the synthesis conditions (i.e., temperature and pH values) were varied. CeO2 samples of different shapes and structural properties were obtained, namely cubes, rods, cube and nanorod mixtures, and other polyhedra. The prepared materials were tested using four probe catalytic reactio...

To improve the understanding of catalytic processes, the surface structure and composition of the active materials need to be determined before and after reaction. Morphological changes may occur under reaction conditions and can dramatically influence the reactivity and/or selectivity of a catalyst. Goldbased catalysts with different architectures are currently being developed for selective ox...

The oxidation of alkyl and aryl aldehydes to their corresponding carboxylic acids has been achieved through the action of a biomimetic bridged flavin catalyst. The reaction uses readily available 35% aqueous hydrogen peroxide and is operationally simple. The oxidation is a green and sustainable reaction, obviating chlorinated solvents with minimal byproducts.

How to thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate and the energy realeased from it’s decomposition is effective on the burning rate of propellant. Therefore, various catalysts can be used to improve the combustion properties of ammounium perchlorate .Crystalline transition metal oxides (TMOs) with diverse morphological structure have attracted tremendous attention during the last decade. Amon...

We present the rapid-prototyping of type I collagen micropatterns on poly-dimethylsiloxane substrates for the biomimetic confinement of cells using the combination of a surface oxidation treatment and 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane silanisation followed by glutaraldehyde crosslinking. The aim of surface treatment is to stabilise microcontact printing transfer of this natural extracellular matrix...

Vanadium haloperoxidases catalyse the oxidation of halides leading to halogenation of substrates or, in the absence of suitable substrates, to oxidation of hydrogen peroxide into singlet oxygen and water. Furthermore, V-haloperoxidases are capable to give enantioselective sulfoxidation under the appropriate conditions. The most interesting model compounds that have been synthesised and studied ...

Heterogeneous catalysis plays a key role in the manufacture of essential products in key areas of agriculture and pharmaceuticals, but also in the production of polymers and numerous essential materials. Our understanding of heterogeneous catalysts is advancing rapidly, especially by using the latest characterisation methods on these relatively complex effect materials. At the heart of these ca...
