The electrons in graphene exhibit unusual behaviours, which can be described by massless Dirac quasiparticles. Understanding electron scattering in graphene has been of significant importance for its future application in electronic devices because electron scattering determines electrical properties such as resistivity and electron transport. There are two types of electron scatterings in grap...
An electron wave packet formed in a semiconductor heterostructure containing a quantum well covered by a metal surface is considered. It is demonstrated that the potential of the charge induced by the electron wave packet on the conducting surface possesses a component of lateral confinement stabilizing its shape. The existence of electron solitons, i.e., running electron wave packets propagati...
The Boltzmann conductivity is calculated for carbon nanotubes in the presence of an Aharonov–Bohm magnetic flux. Effects of impurity scattering are considered at low temperatures and those of electron– phonon scattering are considered at room temperature. Effects of strains and curvature manifest themselves as a prominent conductivity peak as a function of the flux. The appearance of the peak c...
The design for the proto type of the Shanghai Laser Electron Gamma Source (SLEGS) at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) is introduced. Some detailed descriptions for design of related instruments are provided. The proto type can produce X-ray with energy of 10 keV order. A description of the kinematics of Compton backscattering mechanism and the related simulation results are pr...
This document contains a proposal of the BEPC-II collider beam energy calibration system (IHEP, Beijing). The system is based on Compton backscattering of carbon dioxide laser radiation, producing a beam of high energy photons. Their energy spectrum is then accurately measured by HPGe detector. The high-energy spectrum edge will allow to determine the average electron or positron beam energy ε ...
The dephasing rate of an electron level in a quantum dot, placed next to a fluctuating edge current in the fractional quantum Hall effect, is considered. Using perturbation theory, we first show that this rate has an anomalous dependence on the bias voltage applied to the neighboring quantum point contact, because of the Luttinger liquid physics which describes the fractional Hall fluid. Next, ...
Chemically induced mobility gaps in graphene nanoribbons: a route for upscaling device performances.
We report a first-principles based study of mesoscopic quantum transport in chemically doped graphene nanoribbons with a width up to 10 nm. The occurrence of quasi-bound states related to boron impurities results in mobility gaps as large as 1 eV, driven by strong electron-hole asymmetrical backscattering phenomena. This phenomenon opens new ways to overcome current limitations of graphene-base...
We study the response of the interacting electron gas in one dimension on the local external potential. In the low frequency limit the power-law singularities are essentially modifyed by backscattering effects which, in the case of zero forward scattering, result in the universal critical exponent depending only on the Luttingerliquid interactions. The results obtained may be used to describe s...
