Dear Editor, We read an interesting article entitled: “Cytokeratin7 expression in gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma: Correlation with prognostic factors” in the Caspian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2015: 6 (4). We admire the authors of above paper for their valuable paper. In this article, it has been explained that in Iran, gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma are the second and the fift...

Administration of CCl4 to normal rats and consequent oral feeding with ellagic acid (50 mg/kg) provided a significant protection against the biochemical alterations in serum and liver produced by CCl4. In vitro experiments showed that liver microsomes from animals treated with ellagic acid and CCl4, decreased lipid peroxidation compared to microsome prepared from rats exposed to CCl4 alone.

Epidemiological studies suggest that the incidence of CVD and postmenopausal osteoporosis is low in the Mediterranean area, where herbs and nuts, among others, play an important role in nutrition. In the present study, we sought a role of walnuts (Juglans regia L.) in endothelial and bone-cell function. As the endothelial cell expression of adhesion molecules has been recognised as an early ste...

Background: Autophagy is a mechanism disassembling the damaged organelles from the cell. This study attempted to examine the expression of several autophagy-related genes in Parkinson’s disease (PD) rat model. Methods: The male Wistar rats were divided into three groups as control, sham, and lesion. In the latter group, the PD rat model was induced by the injection of 6-hydroxydopamine in...

G UNNERA PERPENSA L., FAMILY GUNNERAceae, is among the most frequently cited of about 90 species used by South African traditional healers in pregnancy-related medicines. Seven bioactive compounds were isolated from Gunnera perpensa roots, with five of these being novel to the species at the time of identification. These are 3,3’,4’-tri-Omethyl ellagic acid lactone, ellagic acid lactone, 1,1’-b...

OBJECTIVE In ventricular arrhythmias, due to their free radical scavenging action, antioxidant agents are usually used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Since stress is considered as risk factor for increased mortality by causing malignant arrhythmias, the study was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective effects of ellagic acid (EA) on CaCl2-induced arrhythmias in rat stress model....

The trophism of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) for dopaminergic cells in culture has led to significant interest in the role of BDNF in the etiology and potential treatment of Parkinson disease. Previous in vivo investigation of BDNF delivery to axotomized substantia nigra dopaminergic neurons in the adult rat has shown no protective effect. In this study, we produced nigral degenerat...

Twenty-eight compounds were screened for chemopreventive activity by using a rat tracheal epithelial cell transformation inhibition assay. In this new assay, chemicals were tested for their ability to inhibit the formation of transformed rat tracheal epithelial cell colonies which arise following exposure to the carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene. The 15 positive compounds were N-acetylcysteine, bismuth...

Two new ellagic acid glycosides, named stachyanthuside A (1) and B (6), have been isolated along with four known ellagic compounds (2-5) from the leaves of Diplopanax stachyanthus. The structures of the new compounds were established as 3'-O-methylellagic acid 4-O-beta--glucopyranoside (1) and 3,3',4'-tri-O-methylellagic acid 4-O-beta--(2'-acetyl)-glucopyranoside (6) on the basis of detailed sp...
