Encephalitozoon cuniculi is a microsporidian species which can induce subclinical to serious disease in mammals including rabbits, a definitive natural host. The pathophysiology of infection has not been comprehensively elucidated. In this exploratory study, we utilized two mass spectrometry approaches: first, the analysis of the humoral response by profiling the microsporidian antigens as reve...

The genome sequence of the microsporidian parasite Encephalitozoon cuniculi Levaditi, Nicolau et Schoen, 1923 contains about 2,000 genes that are representative of a non-redundant potential proteome composed of 1,909 protein chains. The purpose of this review is to relate some advances in the characterisation of this proteome through bioinformatics and experimental approaches. The reduced diver...

Central vestibular disease is one of the most common problems in pet rabbits. Encephalitozoon cuniculi infection appears to be frequent etiology, but other causes have been described. It known that infective endocarditis can cause thromboembolic affecting multiple organ systems dogs. Secondary embolism from bacterial commonly occurs, mainly spleen and kidneys, cerebral thromboembolism secondary...

Resistance of Nosema ceranae to different exposure conditions has been evaluated by using Sytox green and DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole) to test spore viability. High thermotolerance at 60 and 35 degrees C and resistance to desiccation were observed. However, a significant decrease in viability after freezing and a rapid degeneration of spores maintained at 4 degrees C were also detected.

A total of 219 and 124 individual fecal samples of horses and donkeys, respectively, were screened for the presence of Cryptosporidium spp., Encephalitozoon spp., and Enterocytozoon bieneusi DNA by genus-specific nested PCR. Isolates were genotyped by sequence analysis of SSU rRNA, GP60, TRAP-C1, COWP, and HSP70 loci in Cryptosporidium, and the ITS region in microsporidia. Cryptosporidium spp. ...

AIMS To detect intestinal microsporidiosis in paraffin wax embedded biopsy specimens using a fluorescence technique incorporating optical brighteners. METHODS Eight HIV infected patients with confirmed intestinal microsporidiosis (six with Enterocytozoon bieneusi, one with Encephalitozoon intestinalis and one with Encephalitozoon cuniculi infection) and 10 without infection were studied. Tiss...
