The relationship between modulation format and the performance of multi-channel digital back-propagation (MC-DBP) in ideal Nyquist-spaced optical communication systems is investigated. It is found that the nonlinear distortions behave independent of modulation format in the case of full-field DBP, in contrast to the cases of electronic dispersion compensation and partial-bandwidth DBP. It is sh...

A comprehensive theory of the modulation response of quantum dot (QD) lasers is developed. The factors limiting the modulation bandwidth are identified and the highest possible bandwidth is calculated. The highest bandwidth increases directly with overlap integral of the electron and hole wave functions in a QD, number of QD-layers, and surface density of QDs in a layer, and is inversely propor...

Modulation techniques have attracted increasing attention in optical wireless communications. Basic schemes such as on off keying (OOK), pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) and pulse position modulation (PPM) have been validated as suitable for the optical wireless channel. This paper starts from the analysis of these three modulation schemes in terms of their power and bandwidth requirements. As ...

Wireless communication technology is emerging very fast with reliable communication lead to emergence of very numerous technologies. There are various modulation schemes suitable in optical wireless communication like OOK, PPM, DPIM and DH-PIM. As modulation techniques is categorized into bandwidth & power efficient but for error performance there are few assumptions where there is no bandwidth...

Sub-carrier-multiplexed (SCM) fiber optic systems have received much attention for local access networks, fiber radios, and cable television distributions [l]. With SCM, multiple channels of analog videos and digital telephony/data can all be simultaneously transmitted by a single optical carrier and detected by the same photodetector. Direct modulation of semiconductor lasers is a simple, low-...

This paper demonstrates bandwidth requirement for optical DPQSK transmitter using one Dual-drive Mach Zehnder Modulator (DDMZM) for 100Gb/s physical transmission. The result shows that at receiver bandwidth of 40GHz, NRZDQPSK signal requires 60GHz modulation bandwidth at least, while RZ-DQPSK scheme demands less bandwidth, about 40GHz for 50% duty cycle RZ-DQPSK signal.

This report documents the results of a preliminary study on the application of various modulation and forward error control (FEC) techniques for application to wireless local area networks (WLAN) applications. The report considers the existing quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) -Barker code based system. The notion of bandwidth and signal to noise ratios Es/No and Eb/No are reviewed. It is sh...
