A decision feedback equalizer (DFE) with correct tap weights operating on’a noisy channel is considered. We show how the results concerning a noiseless channel can he extended to yield tight bounds on the stationary error Probability performance for the noisy case. The effect of noise on DFE performance is classified according to the noise distribution and the channel parameters.

Asymptotic relative efficiency of one test with respect to (w.r.t.) another is extensively studied in the literature. For an introduction and overview we refer to Nikitin [1]. Several notions of efficiency may be distinguished w.r.t. how the probabilities of first and second kind test errors behave in the case of increasing sample sizes. Roughly spoken, studies of Pitman type are dealing with s...

In a Bayesian network, for any node its conditional probabilities given all possible combinations of values for its parent nodes are specified. In this paper a new notion, the parental synergy, is introduced which can be computed from these probabilities. This paper also conjectures a general expression for the error which is found in the marginal prior probabilities computed for a node when th...

In this paper, we investigate the undetected error probabilities for bounded-distance decoding of binary primitive BCH codes when they are used for both error correction and detection on a binary symmetric channel. We show that the undetected error probability of binary linear codes can be quite simplified and quantified if weight distribution of the code is binomial-like. We obtain bounds on t...

Recent literature found that subjective survival expectations in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) appear to be overly optimistic among older respondents compared to life table values and actual survival rates. This paper argues that a significant portion of this bias is due to measurement error as opposed to biases in survival beliefs. HRS asks about the subjective probability of living ~1...
