Haemodialysis (HD) patients are at increased risk of vascular access complications with device therapy. We report a case of transvenous defibrillator lead extraction from the ipsilateral side as an HD fistula. The procedure was successfully performed using a hybrid approach, with extraction of the lead with a powered sheath, and surgical cut-down and closure of the subclavian vein defect.

METHODS: Consecutive patients with medically controlled OAG and visually significant cataracts were treated with ECP and cataract extraction (study group) or cataract extraction alone (control group). The groups were matched in age and baseline intraocular pressure (IOP). The main outcome measures were the change in IOP and number of glaucoma medications. Secondary measures included visual acui...

AIMS An estimated 10,000-15,000 pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) leads are extracted annually worldwide using specialized tools that disrupt encapsulating fibrous tissue. Additional information is needed regarding the safety of the devices that have been approved for lead extraction. The aim of this study was to determine whether complications due to device-assisted le...

PURPOSE Evaluation of the technical success rate and complications when retrieving dislocated intravascular foreign bodies. MATERIAL AND METHODS Between 1999 and 2015 38 patients (21 female; 17 male; Age: 17 - 92; Average 54.3 years) underwent an extraction of intravascular dislocated foreign bodies, which were not lost during a radiological intervention. The extracted material included 29 po...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to determine the use of flexible iris retractors in four patients with zonular dialysis occurring during cataract surgery. METHODS We describe the use of flexible iris retractors to stretch and fixate the capsulorhexis over the zonular dehiscence sector for patients with traumatic zonular disruption occurring during phacoemulsification, which stabilizes th...

Introduction The increased number of implantations of pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) devices has also generated a rise in the number of lead extraction procedures, with an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 devices extracted annually worldwide. The difficulty of lead extraction is directly proportional to the severity of the fibrotic and adhesive scar tissue that encases the...

Introduction Lead extraction is a high-risk procedure with potential serious complications, such as vascular avulsion, cardiac tamponade, and death. When a patient is referred for lead extraction, a careful assessment of any alternatives should be undertaken. When lead malfunction is the issue, the risks and benefits of lead extraction versus implantation of additional leads should be considere...
