Patients suffering from the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) requires thoracic electrical impedance tomography (EIT) for the monitoring their conditions ranging from dynamic shifting of body fluids to lung aeration right at the bedside. More objectively, EIT-derived numeric parameters would help the physician to evaluate the state of the lung. Thus, here we have performed a Finite Ele...

The Finite Element Method (FEM) has become an indispensable tool in computer graphics. Typical applications range from computer games, special effects and feature films to virtual surgery training simulators. In the field of geometric modeling, the FEM can help in creating realistic and physically plausible deformations with the user only having to specify a low number of constraints. Using the...

In this paper, we present a novel method to couple Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and nonlinear FEM to animate the interaction of fluids and deformable solids in real time. To accurately model the coupling, we generate proxy particles over the boundary of deformable solids to facilitate the interaction with fluid particles, and develop an efficient method to distribute the coupling force...

In this paper we propose a new general framework for the application of the nonlinear finite element method (FEM) to nonrigid motion analysis. We construct the models by integrating image data and prior knowledge, using well-established techniques from computer vision, structural mechanics, and computer-aided design (CAD). These techniques guide the process of optimization of mesh models. Linea...

a non-linear finite element model could be a useful tool in the development of a method of predicting soil pressure-sinkage behaviour, and can be used to investigate and analyze soil compaction. this study was undertaken to emphasize that the finite element method (fem) is a proper technique to model soil pressure-sinkage behaviour. for this purpose, the finite element method was used to model ...

In this paper presented initial design of Low Speed Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) Machine with Non-Slotted TORUS topology type by use of certain algorithm (Appendix). Validation of design algorithm studied by means of selected data of an initial prototype machine. Analytically design calculation carried out by means of design algorithm and obtained results compared with results of Finite E...

This paper considers the application of numerical techniques to modelling large 3D Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) electromagnetic problems in the time and frequency domains. The environment model consists of three material layers: air, sea and seabed. To represent a coastal region, the sea region is shallow with a variable depth and includes a sloping seabed. The electromagnetic source is a harm...

The forward problem in Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) requires an accurate estimation of its solution. Although analytical solutions exist for a limited number of cases, there is no suitable analytical solution for the geometry of the human head. A commonly adopted method is the use of Finite Element Methods (FEM). However, the human head consists of layers, which include the scalp and C...

The solution of a hybrid nite element method (HFEM) problem is considered. It is shown that a suitable ordering of the FEM mesh results in a canonical HFEM matrix system. This linear system can be solved in O(N 1:5) cost when sparse direct methods are used. This cost is comparable to FEM methods using approximate boundary conditions and a similar sparse solution method.

1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In a low frequency analysis of vibration in a built-up structure, the eigen frequencies and the corresponding eigenmodes help the understanding of how and why the structure behaves as it does. These eigen solutions are also useful in calculations of forced response by modal super-position procedures. However, as frequency increases there are more and more modes with increasi...
