There has been a dramatic increase in infections caused by candida worldwide. They are most commonly treated by fluconazole, which has led to emergence of fluconazole resistant candida. Also C krusei show innate resistance and C. glabrata & C. tropicalis show reduced susceptibility to fluconazole. Hence we undertook this study to speciate andto determine antifungal susceptibility pattern of
A new triazole derivative (voriconazole or UK-109,496) and fluconazole were tested against 249 isolates of Candida spp. representing six species. Voriconazole was 10 to 100 times more potent than fluconazole. Strains with decreased susceptibility to fluconazole were inhibited by relatively low concentrations of voriconazole.
Background: Candidal vulvovaginitis is a female genital infection that is occured by the over growth of candida species and specially Candida - albicans and occasionally it appears as recurrent and chronic and resist to therapy. Fluconazole is one of the current drugs that is used in treatment of this disease and sometimes resistance is observed to this. Therefore indirection of making the th...
We determined MICs for 28 Candida isolates recovered from patients who developed breakthrough candidemia while receiving fluconazole. MICs correlated with daily and cumulative doses of fluconazole. Patients receiving > or =2,000 mg cumulatively or >200 mg daily were more likely to be infected with isolates that were not fluconazole susceptible.
Fluconazole-FK506 or fluconazole-cyclosporine drug combinations were tested in an ex vivo Trichophyton mentagrophytes human skin infection model. Conidia colonization was monitored by scanning electron microscopy over a 7-day treatment period. The fluconazole-FK506 combination demonstrated the most obvious advantage over single-drug therapy by clearing conidia and protecting skin from damage at...
Aims: The oral cavity contains more than 200 microbial species. Candida species are also part of the fungal flora of the oral cavity. In recent years, Candida krusei as a common oral candida in AIDS patients, has been shown resistant to some antifungal drugs. The emergence of multidrug-resistant fungi, especially in immunodeficient populations, is a major global problem. Today, the use of medic...
Studies with animals and in vitro studies have demonstrated that flucytosine plus amphotericin B or fluconazole has significantly improved mycologic activity against meningitis caused by Cryptococcus neoformans compared to the activity of amphotericin B or fluconazole used alone. However, few doses have been tested in combination. This study evaluated the antifungal efficacy of amphotericin B c...
BACKGROUND Data from retrospective studies have suggested that there may be an interaction between fluconazole and nevirapine, increasing nevirapine concentrations and potentially leading to hepatotoxicity. METHODS This study was nested within a large double-blind placebo-controlled study designed to determine if primary prophylaxis with fluconazole (200 mg three times per week) could reduce ...
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the impact of selective fluconazole prophylaxis on incidence of invasive fungal infection and emergence of fluconazole resistance in neonatal intensive care. DESIGN Retrospective study of very low birthweight (VLBW) babies (<1500 g birth weight) admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the period 1 year before and after the implementation of an antifungal pr...
