A novel cationic water-soluble conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) of polyfluorene that contains 15% fraction of 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BT) units (PFC3NBT) has been obtained. PFC3NBT demonstrates intramolecular energy transfer from the fluorene segments to BT sites when negatively charged species (SDS or DNAs) are added, following by a shift in emission color from blue to green, has been develope...

As reported previously (Kimura, T., Ting, J., and Huang, J. J. (1972) J Biol. Chem., 247, 4476-4479), adrenal iron-sulfur protein, which contains no tryptophan and 1 tyrosine residue at position 82, displays an anomalous fluorescence peak at 331 nm. The present study conclusively demonstrates that he emission originates from the tyrosine residue with no contribution to the fluorescence of t...

Minimal quenching of fluorescence emission was observed when the fluorescent dye AlexaFluor 514 (AF514) was covalently bound to gold monolayer protected clusters (AuMPCs) that have negligible plasmon bands (diameters <2 nm). The fluorescence emission of the conjugated dye was measured as a function of dye-AuMPC mixing ratio with a combination of steady-state and time-resolved ensemble spectrosc...

The first FUV (λλ 1350–1750Å) spectral imaging observations of the Eridanus superbubble, obtained with the SPEAR/FIMS mission, have revealed distinct fluorescent emission from molecular hydrogen. In this study, the observed emission features were compared with those from a photo-dissociation region model with assumed illuminating stellar fields. The result showed rather high line ratios of I158...

A new type of resorufin-based dual-functional fluorescent probe whose fluorescence emission features are sensitive to thiol compounds and redox homeostasis was developed. Thiols-triggered nucleophilic substitution of the probes converts the nonfluorescent probe to the highly fluorescent resorufin moiety; the released resorufin not only enables fluorescence signaling specific for thiol compounds...

A series of "long-chain" 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine derivatives containing an environment-sensitive fluorescent moiety (4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide, 4-dimethylaminophthalimide, dansyl) was synthesized. The compounds displayed very high to moderate 5-HT(1A) receptor affinity and good fluorescence properties. 6-Amino-2-[5-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-piperazinyl]pentyl]-1H-benz[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)...

The commonly made assumption of Lambertian behaviour of fluorescence emission has been studied in solid amorphous material. A goniofluorometer capable of measurements in measurement geometries from 0 : 10 to 0 : 85 has been used for this purpose. The measurements indicate that the fluorescence emission from solid amorphous material is clearly non-Lambertian.

We establish fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy (FFS) with nanoscale detection volumes generated by stimulated emission depletion. Our method applies fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and fluorescence intensity distribution analysis to extract molecular information about mobilities and fluorescence emission in solution. The combination of correlation analysis with that of photon intensit...

8-Azidoadenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (8-azido cAMP) was directly detected in living cells, by applying Cu-free azide-alkyne cycloaddition to probe cAMP derivatives by fluorescence light-up. Fluorescence emission was generated by two non-fluorescent molecules, 8-azido cAMP as a model target and difluorinated cyclooctyne (DIFO) reagent as a probe. The azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction be...
