This study was carried out to determine the optimum frequency of semen collections, dilution rate , and artificial insemination dose of Domyati duck semen in order to set up the commercial semen quality which could be applied to the conservation of genetic resources, breeding, and commercial production in Domyati ducks. In experiment 1, the three levels of the frequency of semen collections (on...

PURPOSE To examine the effect of myopia, occasionally associated with glaucomatous eyes, on the results obtained by frequency-doubling perimetry (FDP). METHODS Sixty emmetropic or myopic normal volunteers (mean age, 26.2 +/- 0.35 years, mean +/- SEM; range, 19-34) with good visual acuity and without glaucoma were divided into three groups. The groups were emmetropia to low-myopia (mean refrac...

All mature forms of locomotion involve periods of unilateral stance. Unipedal hopping may provide useful information about the neuromuscular and biomechanical capabilities of a single lower extremity in adults. This study investigated whether hopping influenced vertical stiffness and lower extremity angular kinematics during human unipedal hopping. Vertical force and two-dimensional kinematics ...

A critical review of frequency-shift phenomena a la Doppler effect is presented. The importance of Fermi's theory of 1932 is pointed out,and it is argued that there exist gaps in our understanding of this phenomena at a fundamental level. Alternative mechanism in terms of photon number oscillations is suggested for polarization changing experiments. The physical reality of single photon is revi...

Some recent experiments suggest that only open class words show a frequency effect. Closed class items are accessed independently of their frequency. We carried out five experiments to test the validity of this hypothesis for the French language. All our results suggest that the frequency effect applies equally well to the open and closed class items.

We have investigated the problem of edge effects in laser-beam transillumination scanning of the human breast. Edge effects arise from tissue thickness variability along the scanned area, and from lateral photon losses through the sides of the breast. Edge effects can be effectively corrected in frequency-domain measurements by employing a two-step procedure: (1) use of the phase information to...

We measure the longitudinal conductivity σxx at frequencies 1.246 GHz ≤ f ≤ 10.05 GHz over a range of temperatures 235 mK ≤ T ≤ 4.2 K with particular emphasis on the Quantum Hall plateaus. We find that Re(σxx) scales linearly with frequency for a range of magnetic field around the center of the plateaus, i.e. where σxx(ω) ≫ σ DC xx . The width of this scaling region decreases with higher temper...

Contrast sensitivity for a Gabor target can be increased by a factor of two when identical patches are separated by about three wavelengths (lambda) and positioned collinearly (Polat and Sagi, 1993, 1994a, 1994b). The facilitation effect was found for a wide range of spatial frequencies but was tested with well-experienced observers. Since practice modifies the range of lateral interactions, in...

Recently. this journal published a study by Appelman and Mayzner (1981) in which the authors examined previous letter-recognition studies to determine whether more frequent letters were easier to recognize than less frequent letters (the letter-frequency effect). They found a discrepancy between accuracy studies and reaction time (RT) studies, with only the latter providing evidence for a lette...

Laros et al. state probably on the basis of experience in one patient that oral high frequency oscillation (OHFO) combined with forced expiration manoeuvres on tracheobronchial clearance is disappointing in patients with flaccid lungs. Their letter to the editor suggests that our conclusions, meaning that OHFO combined with forced expiration manoeuvres is inefficient, could not be made because ...
