Recent studies have provided evidence for gene transfers from prokaryotes to eukaryotes and between eukaryotes. The mechanisms and frequencies of these transfers remain the subject of speculation, but the findings provide ample reason to seriously consider interspecies gene transfer as an important evolutionary process in eukaryotes.

Gene therapy vectors are among the treatments currently used to treat malignant tumors. Gene therapy vectors use a specific therapeutic transgene that causes death in cancer cells. In early attempts at gene therapy, therapeutic transgenes were driven by non-specific vectors which induced toxicity to normal cells in addition to the cancer cells. Recently, novel cancer specific viral vectors have...

The use of reporters such as green fluorescent protein (GFP) and firefly luciferase permit highly sensitive and nondestructive monitoring of gene transfer and expression. Modifications in GFP which increase intensity and thermostability, as well as alter its spectral qualities, have facilitated the use of GFP in a variety of gene transfer methods. Improvements in imaging technologies and their ...

PURPOSE The cornea is an ideal organ for evaluating gene transfer because it can be treated noninvasively and monitored easily. The present study was performed to investigate the practical efficacy and safety of ultrasound (US) plus microbubble (MB)-mediated gene transfer to cornea. METHODS Cultured rabbit corneal epithelial (RC-1) cells were incubated in 24-well dishes with plasmid DNA havin...

Introduction: Today, treatment with CAR-T cells is accepted as an effective treatment for blood malignancies. CAR-T cells are autologous T cells that are engineered by gene transfer techniques to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR). Despite the promising results and the approval of six CAR-T cell products; these products have not yet been approved for solid tumors. In addition, the high c...
