Noroviruses have emerged as the leading worldwide cause of acute non-bacterial gastroenteritis in humans. The presence of noroviruses in diarrheic stool samples from calves on Michigan and Wisconsin dairy farms was investigated by RT-PCR. Norovirus-positive samples were found on all eight farms studied in Michigan and on 2 out of 14 farms in Wisconsin. Phylogenetic analyses of partial polymeras...

A molecular biological survey on porcine norovirus (NoV) and sapovirus (SaV) was conducted in Toyama Prefecture, Japan, during fiscal year 2008. Both NoV and SaV were detected from swine fecal samples throughout the surveillance period, indicating that these viruses were circulating in this region. NoV strains detected in this study belonged to three genotypes that are known as typical swine No...

To determine if bovine caliciviruses circulate in France, we studied 456 fecal samples from diarrheic calves. We found a 20% prevalence of genogroup III noroviruses and a predominance of genotype III.2. Neboviruses, with a prevalence of 7%, were all related to the reference strain Bo/Nebraska/80/US, except for the strain Bo/DijonA216/06/FR, which could represent a novel genotype.

Sapoviruses, which are members of the Caliciviridae family, are small nonenveloped viruses known to infect a large spectrum of mammalian hosts. We report here the first complete genome sequences of two genogroup I sapoviruses isolated from fecal samples from chimpanzees living in the Tchimpounga sanctuary, Republic of Congo.

Beginning in July 2012, a community-wide increase in the number of norovirus-associated acute gastroenteritis cases was observed during the summer months in Hong Kong. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of a novel recombinant norovirus genogroup II genotype 4 (GII.4) strain, named "2012v," which is associated with this "early" epidemic outside the usual winter season.

An outbreak of viral encephalitis occurred in Gorakhpur, India, from July through November 2005. The etiologic agent was confirmed to be Japanese encephalitis virus by analyzing 326 acute-phase clinical specimens for virus-specific antibodies and viral RNA and by virus isolation. Phylogenetic analysis showed that these isolates belonged to genogroup 3.
