Omental pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, and can be seen primarily or secondary to a tubal pregnancy. A 25-year-old woman presented with abdominal distention with pain and anemia without vaginal bleeding. After a provisional diagnosis of ruptured ectopic pregnancy, laparotomy was performed. On surgical exploration, the bilateral tubes and ovaries were intact, however, an omental p...
We report a case of a 38-yr-old man with a spontaneously ruptured gastric stromal tumor presenting as hemoperitoneum in outpatient clinic. He visited our hospital with generalized abdominal pain after abdominal CT scan for the evaluation of the asymptomatic palpable abdominal mass. Repeated abdominal CT scan showed a size decrement of cystic mass compared with the previous abdominal CT scan, an...
Spontaneous rupture of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) with hemoperitoneum is an extremely rare clinical presentation of this mesenchymal tumor. We report the unusual case of a 68-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain. While waiting for the results of his laboratory tests the patient became pale and tachycardic and his abdomen distended with generalized rebound...
© 2008 Association médicale canadienne G stromal tumours (GISTs) are the commonest mesenchymal tumours of the digestive tract, with an incidence estimated between 10 and 20/106 people annually. GISTs are characterized by overexpression in the tyrosine kinase receptor through mutations of ckit or PDGFRA genes. The stomach is the most frequent site of GIST occurrence. Because of their high vascul...
A case of Meckel's diverticulum presenting acutely with spontaneous haemoperitoneum is presented. This complication has not, to our knowledge, been previously reported.
Perforation of the gallbladder has an incidence of 1.6 to 2.8% in gallbladder disease. Among these cases transhepatic rupture is a very rare event. We report a case associated with secondary massive hemoperitoneum, free gallstone spillage, partial portal vein thrombosis and secondary pulmonary embolism.
Hemoperitoneum from retroperitoneal varices in cirrhotic is very rare. This condition should be taken into account based on anamnesis, clinical features, and laboratory findings; but due to the unstable presentation, diagnosis remains a challenge. Emergency laparotomy could be effective treatment, but the prognosis remains poor related to the hepatic reserve.
Intercostal artery injury may be life-threatening and usually presents as hemothorax. We report a unique case of penetrating injury, causing hemoperitoneum due to intercostal without thoracic involvement. During urgent laparotomy, no intra-abdominal organ was found. Hemostasis successfully achieved via suturing through an additional lateral 10cm incision the left thorax.
A case is presented describing a new, potentially life threatening complication of vomiting after a 21 year old man presented in shock with a haemoperitoneum caused by violent, self induced emesis.
