C erebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are cerebro-vascular disorders with an approximate prevalence of 1 in 200. The CCM pathology is typified by abnormally dilated clusters of blood vessels with defective endothelial cell–cell junctions, sluggish blood flow, and almost always associated with hemosiderin deposition in the surrounding paren-chyma.
Mycobacterium leprae organisms isolated from infected spleen and liver tissue by zonal centrifugation were shown to possess adjuvant activity. Histochemical examination of the footpad macrophage epithelioid granuloma showed that macrophages contained large amounts of hemosiderin after the injection of M. leprae and much smaller amounts after the injection of M. tuberculosis.
Superficial Siderosis (SS) is a rare neurological condition which results from hemosiderin deposition on the leptomeninges, subpial and ependymal surfaces of the central nervous system (CNS). Patients commonly present with the classic triad of hearing loss, cerebellar ataxia and pyramidal signs. We report clinical, radiological and pathological findings in a patient with SS due to chronic haemo...
A patient who presented with symptoms suggestive of nerve root compression secondary to an extradural mass was found to have a hematoma in the ligamentum flavum. Pathological examination of surgical specimens revealed an old hemorrhage, and hemosiderin deposits around organized granulation tissue within the ligamentum flavum. Vessels within the ligamentum flavum had, presumably, ruptured during...
The natural course of radiation encephalopathy following nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) radiotherapy remains poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics and evolution of radiation encephalopathy. A series of 162 follow-up MRI examinations from 68 NPC patients with radiation encephalopathy in the temporal lobes were analyzed retr...
BACKGROUND Colorectal perineuriomas are uncommon benign mucosal-based proliferations of mesenchymal cells that express perineurial markers, often associated with colonic crypts displaying a serrated/hyperplastic architecture. The vast majority of cases arise distal to the splenic flexure and have been described as sessile polyps. Using molecular analysis, BRAF mutations have been demonstrated i...
