OBJECTIVE To determine possible differences in hepatic artery flow between trisomy 21 and euploid fetuses at 11-13 weeks' gestation. METHODS Hepatic artery pulsatility index (PI) and peak systolic velocity (PSV) were measured in fetuses at low risk of aneuploidies (n = 350) and another group at high risk, including 283 euploid and 47 with trisomy 21. The association of hepatic artery PI and P...
Hepatic artery (HA) aneurysms are seen infrequently, but many eventually rupture, often with a fatal outcome. With modern diagnostic technology, aneurysms can be identified at an earlier stage, providing the opportunity for intervention. This review outlines the case of a patient with a massive, leaking hepatic artery aneurysm and discusses the aetiology and management of these lesions.
In addition to the normal textbook description, the hepatobiliary arterial system in man shows many anatomical variations that have definite clinical importance. The presence of aberrant hepatic and cystic arteries may lead to a number of iatrogenic injuries during some open surgical or endoscopic procedures. In the course of routine students’ dissection of a 62-year-old Caucasian female cadave...
PURPOSE The aim of our study was to determine whether using C-arm CT (DYNA CT) during hepatic arteriography imaging assists in TACE treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS 138 patients with HCC, 69 patients (Group A) underwent DYNA CT and routine digital subtraction angiography (DSA), while another 69 patients (Group B) underwent only DSA, were prospectively studied at a single facility between May ...
Hepatic artery aneurysm is a rare and potentially life-threatening entity. We report a case of ruptured common hepatic artery aneurysm in a patient with Behçet's disease. The ruptured aneurysm was treated successfully with transcatheter arterial coil embolization. Transcatheter arterial embolization is the preferred treatment modality in patients at high risk of surgical intervention.
Background: The most common hepatic artery complications after Liver Transplantation (LT) are hepatic artery stenosis, thrombosis and pseudoaneurysm, which can all cause ischemia in the grafted liver. As one of the main complications, the Hepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm (HAP) is rare with the incidence of about 2%, but its consequence may be most devastating or even fatal. Methods: Here, we prese...
Rare vascular anomalies were observed postmortem in a Japanese female (60-yearold). 1) The common hepatic artery arose from the superior mesenteric artery, ascended on the anterior surface of the pancreas, where the right gastro-epiploic and right gastric arteries branched, and continued as a normally-positioned proper hepatic artery. 2) Superior to the inferior phrenic arteries and along the c...
Numerous variations of the hepatic arteries are common in surgical patients. We present a 35-year-old woman who was admitted to our department in order to assess possibility of becoming living donor. Preoperative computed tomography scan revealed anomalous branching pattern of the hepatic arteries. In this case right posterior sectoral artery has been given off by the greater pancreatic artery,...
Objectives: In living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT), microsurgical reconstruction of a hepatic artery is essential but requires challenging techniques, because graft arteries are short and usable vessel grafts are limited. Furthermore, hepatic artery thrombosis can be a lethal complication. Extra-anatomical jump graft reconstruction using free grafts is reported to have a high reocclusion ...
