Conjugate gradient methods are an important class of methods for unconstrained optimization, especially for large-scale problems. Recently, they have been much studied. This paper proposes a three-parameter family of hybrid conjugate gradient methods. Two important features of the family are that (i) it can avoid the propensity of small steps, namely, if a small step is generated away from the ...

In this paper, a new nonlinear conjugate gradient method is proposed for large-scale unconstrained optimization. The sufficient descent property holds without any line searches. We use some steplength technique which ensures the Zoutendijk condition to be held, this method is proved to be globally convergent. Finally, we improve it, and do further analysis.

A new conjugate gradient method is proposed for applying Powell's symmetrical technique to conjugate gradient methods in this paper, which satisfies the sufficient descent property for any line search. Using Wolfe line searches, the global convergence of the method is derived from the spectral analysis of the conjugate gradient iteration matrix and Zoutendijk's condition. Based on this, two con...

Traditional performance optimization techniques have focused on nding the kernel in a program that is the most time consuming and attempting to optimize it. We introduce a methodology for measuring and representing the interaction, or coupling, between kernels that improves upon the accuracy of the traditional method. Then we demonstrate the beneets of using the new methodology by developing a ...

Bordered almost block diagonal systems arise from discretizing a linearized rst-order system of n ordinary diierential equations in a two-point boundary value problem with non-separated boundary conditions. The discretization may use spline collocation, nite diierences, or multiple shooting. After internal condensation, if necessary, the bordered almost block diagonal system reduces to a standa...

In Hybrid Monte Carlo(HMC) simulations for full QCD, the gauge fields evolve smoothly as a function of Molecular Dynamics (MD) time. Thus we investigate improved methods of estimating the trial solutions to the Dirac propagator as superpositions of the solutions in the recent past. So far our best extrapolation method reduces the number of Conjugate Gradient iterations per unit MD time by about...
