The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is responsible for the toxic effects of environmental pollutants such as dioxin, but little is known about its normal physiological functions. Li et al. (2011) now show that specific dietary compounds present in cruciferous vegetables act through the AhR to promote intestinal immune function, revealing AhR as a critical link between diet and immunity.
Pseudomonas sp. strain Ant30-3, isolated from fuel-contaminated Antarctic soil, exhibited distinctive psychrotolerant attributes and the potential for degrading aromatic hydrocarbon compounds at cold temperatures. We report here the 6.14-Mb draft genome of Ant30-3, which will provide insights into the genomic basis for the psychrotolerant and biodegradative properties of this bacterium.
Syntheses of new glycosylated neutral and cationic porphyrin dimers linked at the meso-position via a flexible hydrocarbon chain are described. A detailed 1H and 13C NMR study allows their complete structural elucidation. The UV-visible, fluorescence and MALDI mass spectra are also presented. Photocytotoxicities of these compounds against K562 leukaemia cell line are compared to those of Photof...
Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Achromobacter sp. strain DMS1, which is 4.9 Mbp and has 3,727 coding sequences (CDSs), and is capable of degrading xenobiotic compounds and harboring genes for aromatic hydrocarbon metabolism. Its genome will unravel the basic mechanism involved in bioremediation of anthropogens.
Here, we present the draft genome of Sphingomonas sp. strain Ant20, isolated from oil-polluted soil near Scott Base, Ross Island, Antarctica. The genome of this aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium provides valuable information on the microbially mediated biodegradation of aromatic compounds in cold-climate systems.
This data article provides: 1.An overview of tentatively identified long chain compounds in Dietzia sp. A14101 grown on simple and complex hydrocarbons;2.Preliminary Identification of pigments in bacterial material obtained from incubation with a hydrocarbon (dodecane, n-C12) as the only carbon and energy source;3.Some pictures to illustrate the cell surface charge test.
Theoretical considerations have taken into account an intermediate carbonium ion in this region that will react with electron rich sites within the cell 2. This interaction of a carcinogen with protein or DNA is considered generally to be involved in oncogenesis. Experimental evidence for a reaction mechanism involving the K-region of the hydrocarbon in carcinogenesis is the low carcinogenic ac...
An efficient copper-catalyzed carbon-sulfur bond formation reaction was developed. This method is particularly noteworthy given its experimental simplicity, high generality, and exceptional level of functional group toleration and the low cost of the catalyst system. [reaction: see text]
Novel CuO on mesoporous silica is prepared under a convenient approach, and has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for cross-coupling reactions of thiols with aryl iodides with only 1.0-5.0 mol% catalyst loading.
Chiral aryl vicinal diols were obtained in high ee and yield by asymmetric dihydroxylation of aryl olefins with tandem biocatalysts: one contains an enantioselective styrene monooxygenase, and the other contains a regioselective epoxide hydrolase.
